The Ashley Inn is located on a beautiful street within a 5-10 minute walk from shopping, dining, and the Edgartown waterfront. Edgartown is the most charming town on Martha's Vineyard. Less crowded than Oak Bluffs but with more to offer than Vineyard Haven. Fred and Janet, the innkeepers of The Ashley Inn, offer a delicious homecooked breakfast each morning with several choices of a hot dish (omelet, quiche) and numerous cereals, muffins, pastries (the coffee cake is a must try), and fresh fruit. As for the rooms, I realize that they are decorated for the feel of the area but they are a bit dated. The bed is comfortable and I had a good night's sleep but the furniture in my room was dated, scuffed, and worn out. The tv was a small 13 inch and the remote control didn't work to change the channels. The bathroom in my room was in desperate need of a top to bottom makeover. The shower was TINY...literally like 2 by 2. It was a tight fit just to wash my hair. Forget shaving your legs in this shower. The paint was peeling from the ceiling above the shower and from the walls in the shower, the shower door wouldn't close, and the water was so loud coming out of the pipes of the shower faucet you would've thought a freight train was coming through the wall. I know it had to have woken up the people in the rooms above/below/next to mine. The noise was very loud.
The Ashley Inn has a lot of great things going for it - location, breakfast, and nice innkeepers - but the rooms and, especially, the bathrooms are in dire need of a makeover.
While on MV, be sure to visit the Alpaca Farm. It's really a treat. The alpacas are adorable. Plus, you can stock up on alpaca gloves, hats, and scarves.
