After reading the reviews I wasn't sure what to expect but I took a chance anyway since my budget was tight. My review is long but hopefully the details will help others. My stay was the last couple of days in August until the middle of the first week in Sept.
The pool area is nice with trees around; the pool guy was there to inspect the water so they keep it clean. Parking is across the driveway from the front doors which is nicer than when cars are directly outside the door. There are a couple of chairs by the front doors for relaxation. The guests were a mix of young and old.
The beach is a short distance from the motel and is pretty quiet, good for collecting shells, relaxing, not too many kids around. The beach is smaller than others and there are shells and seaweed at the water edge. It's peaceful.....
The motel owner David was extremely friendly and accommodating. He had coffee and expresso for the guests. My sleep was short the first night; 7.a.m. (4 a.m. Los Angeles time!) due to no drapes, only blinds that do not keep out light. By the time the office opened I was calmer and asked David to please fix the problem or I would need to find another place. I suggested covering the windows with a dark sheet, anything, I just needed sleep. When I returned to the motel later the windows were covered as well as the small front door that had adjustable glass panes for air circulation and privacy. David also took the extra step of purchasing a night mask which I truly appreciated, and still use. It's terrible being a light sleeper! He also left an extention cord for my hairdryer since the bathroom doesn't have an outlet, not a big issue.
My room was dated ( 60's style furniture), but clean. The towels are on the thin side, and I don't recall seeing lotion, shampoo or other amenities except a couple of small packages of make removal lotion.
My one complaint is my bed, perhaps the other rooms have better ones. If I were David I would invest in new beds and keep a few down pillows around for those of us who don't have allergies. He would realize his investment is a short period of time. I'll deal with almost anything except an uncomfortable bed. It didn't help that I had just stayed at the LeMeridian in Boston that has wonderful plush soft beds, but I usually adjust quickly! My solution to reasonably priced hotel beds is to keep a down filled comforter with a friend when I travel back east, but even this didn't help, the bed was still too hard and uncomfortable. I would have prefered to pay slightly more, be farther from the water but have a somewhat comfortable bed.
I don't know how David would have reacted if I insisted that he return my money, but in my case I couldn't have asked for better treatment. He went out of his way to make my stay more comfortable and was not argumentative which would have spoiled my vacation spirit.
I wish David all the best. and I'd love to make this my home away from home when I vacation there each year, but the bed is an issue for me. Hopefully, he will consider the reviews and slowly buy some new beds or at least one for me! :) I hope he becomes enormously successful!
