“Beautiful house and welcoming host”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2010

My girlfriend and I spent four nights in the Pickett House's king-sized room this month (June 2010) and just loved it. The room was large and drop-dead gorgeous. Elizabeth was sunny, gave very helpful advice, and provided delicious and healthy breakfasts.

Our main concern had been the location- Chilmark is a bit removed from the larger towns that have lots of shops and restaurants, and we didn't bring or rent a car. But the bus system on the island is excellent, and one of the main lines passes right by the Pickett House. The bike rental shop also delivered and picked up bikes right at the house. Moreover, the Chilmark area has several beaches, public tennis courts, a solid general store (with pretty good pizza), and a terrific little chocolates shop.

The Pickett House will be on our shortlist of places to stay if and when we make it back to the Vineyard- which we hope will be soon.

My girlfriend and I just experienced a wonderful time at the a comfy little B&B called the Picket House. Chillmark is a bit out of the way, but filled with beautiful rolling hills and quaint cottages and boutiques. Elizabeth was a gracious host, feeding us food and great information about the magnificent island getaway. I highly recommend it!

“Chilmark's Finest B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2009

Wonderful up island spot. My fiance and I had a romantic weekend at the Pickett House. Perfect location if you enjoy the magical rolling hills of the "up island" experience at the Vineyard. Daytripped to nearby Lucy Vincent and Moshup beaches and relaxed on the porch of the Chilmark Store. The sea breezes through the room made for a wonderful night's sleep, and one cannot beat a Vineyard outdoor shower after a day at the beach. Did not partake of the spa...but maybe next visit.

“My Number One B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2009

I use this site often when planning a trip and came across the reviews of one of our favorite B&Bs. I have been staying at the Pickett House for the past 14 years whenever I have visited Martha's Vineyard and it is very special. Though they might not have the luxury of a four star hotel in the city but it has a down home four star feeling that you can not ANYWHERE anywhere on the Vineyard. Elizabeth welcomes us into her beautifully restored home with open arms and provides us with great ideas to make our stay wonderful. We have stayed in 2 of the 4 rooms offered and have found it to be everything we expected and more.

Though one of the rooms had a shared bathroom, we found it very clean and easily accessible( and the towels were better than any of mine at home) To be able to relax in the morning and meet the other guest or have breakfast outside in the wonderful yard was exactly we were looking for. The trip to the local beaches are a hike but I enjoy being away from the hussle and buslte of traffic and that makes the adventure even better. The best part is the outdoor shower after a beautiful sunset and a sandy hot day at the beach.

Those who have not appreciated the solitude and peacfullness that the Pickett House offers may be looking for a different experience but we enjoy the welcoming hospitality that we have had in the home of Elizabeth and her kids and look forward to spending all of our many future visits to the Vineyard to come with them.

“The Pickett House – A perfect “Up Island” Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2009

My brother and I had a wonderful stay with Elizabeth at The Pickett House for three nights last June. This was my first vacation in a long time, and I was looking for an opportunity to unplug and decompress.

The B&B is located away from the hustle and bustle in Edgartown and Oaks Bluff. The ride to the inn through farmland and meadows was relaxing. We made several stops along the way at a bakery, country stores, art gallery, and nature preserve.

From the moment we turned into the inn’s parking lot, I knew this B&B was the right choice. The grounds were beautiful with several inviting gardens and outdoor “rooms.” Adirondack chairs are strategically placed to sit in and watch the world go by – all while inhaling the intoxicating island fragrances and listening to the surf crashing on nearby beaches.

The inn is charming, peaceful, and has a feeling of casual elegance. The common spaces are filled with antiques and intriguing collectibles. Elizabeth and her family welcomed us, gave us a tour of the B&B, showed us to our rooms, and then quietly disappeared while we got settled.

We stayed in the queen and twin rooms on the second floor. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable with a shared bath. The towels were luxurious, and Elizabeth left her hand-made luxury soaps and shampoo for us to use. Quite a nice touch. The bed linens were of excellent quality and the bed was quite inviting. My first inclination was to run and jump on my bed like a child. What I actually did was fall onto the bed with a big sigh and immediately the stresses of everyday life started to melt as the comfy bed absorbed me.

Each morning during our stay, we were greeted with plentiful and good quality coffee and teas. Elizabeth prepared a different, light breakfast each day. Organic fruits, granolas, warm breads, yogurts, and an assortment of delicious cheeses. Very satisfying and just enough to get us started for the day. My brother and I fought for the chair by the corner windows in the sitting room. This was the perfect location to watch the morning mist burn off and see various “designer” birds visiting Elizabeth’s gardens.

Elizabeth is so friendly and a gracious host, and she made me feel like I arrived home. She was helpful in recommending restaurants, her favorite beaches (The Pickett House has beach passes available to the private Lucy Vincent and Squibnocket beaches), and other things for us to do. I would highly recommend a stay at The Pickett House and look forward to my next stay with Elizabeth.
