“Surpasses the hype!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

The Harbour House Inn is far and away the best B&B I've ever encountered. My partner & I spent five days there in mid/late October. The foliage wasn't at its best due to hurricane Irene, but our stay at this B&B made for an EXCEPTIONAL getaway.

What can I say beyond what other reviewers have said? I can echo how lovely the inn and its grounds are, down to the last detail. I can agree that the location is absolutely central to all the attractions the Berkshires have to offer. I can verify that the breakfasts are varied, plentiful and wonderful. (Eva, the innkeeper, will offer to help you with portion control if you are on Weight Watchers, but the food is so good you will tell her to stop, gain weight and IT WILL BE WORTH IT.) Most of all, I can emphatically reinforce that Eva is an AMAZING innkeeper. She is warm, friendly, a font of knowledge and recommendations for the area and just a lovely person all-around. We have encountered innkeepers elsewhere who were surly, inattentive, or prone to collaring us for long conversations about their favourite topics. Eva is none of those things, but knows just how to make you feel individually welcomed and comfortable. So much so that we were hoping she would adopt us as her honourary nieces. (Are you reading this, Eva? We could bring bagels from NYC!)

In short, Harbour House is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. (Except when we want to stay in the romantic Field of Dreams room and nibble Eva's night-time snacks in front of the fire. Then you can stay away!) We definitely hope to go back.

NOTE: Eva told us she's now closing the place from Nov. 1 through sometime in the spring, although she could change her mind, I suppose. Make sure to contact her to verify when the Inn will be available. ALSO: Please excuse the poor resolution of my cell phone photos. Just imagine everything looking much better in real life!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Garden View room 1st, which was really lovely even with the shared bathroom. Howeve...

“The experience of a lifetime”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

There are a lot of other places to stay while taking a fantastic vacation, but my wife and I could not imagine why you would.

The Harbour House Inn is a beautiful place to stay. It feels like you've stepped into a different world full of dreams, hope, and history.

Eva, the owner, makes you feel instantly welcome and makes sure you have everything you need to settle in.

If you don't have the best time of your life at the Harbour House, it's because you are trying not too. After Eva and friends feed you breakfast like you've never had before, on the most elegantly set table you've ever seen, she turns her attention toward your day. She makes you feel like you truly are the most important guest there, no matter how many she has in her house. She gets to know what you want to see and do that day. She's ready with maps and directions if you need them, as well as suggestions for sites and other interests you mahave not known about. Seriously, if you don't talk to Eva before you head out for the day, your probably missing a great local feature you shouldn't. I can't say enought about how much she helped us have a pleasant trip to NY city when we were having a difficult time finding a way to get there. We had resorted to the plan of just driving there. She went way out of her way for us, and saved the day! Not only did we get there faster, but more relaxed and refreshed than we would have been if we had driven. Not to mention we had the opportunity to take our first train ride! Excellent!!!!

We are from the western part of the US, we had no idea what to fully expect of the plans we had made. Eva, her team, and the Harbour House Inn turned a good plan into the experience of a lifetime. My wife and I will be talking about this trip for as long and as often as we can.

Room Tip: Mountain Air Room

“Yummy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

Not your typical B&B. We were quite impressed with the excellent breakfasts and fun company that Eva provided. She is a classy hostess with fine taste displayed in all of her rooms. What luck in finding this gem and Eva in the Berkshires. Wish we were not two thousand miles away, but we shall return.

“Home away from home only better”

It is difficult to put into words the hospitality and warmth one experiences after stepping over the threshhole of The Harbour House Inn. One has to feel it. Therefore I highly recommend you include a stay at this wonderful Inn with its lovely Eva as part of your trip to the Berkshires.

“Truly a peaceful and accommodating stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

We wanted to take a trip up to the Berkshires leading up the Fourth of July to get away from the hustle in the city, and took a shot with Harbour House based on the reviews here on TA as well as some other sites. Suffice to say, we were not disappointed in the least!

The inn itself is beautiful; tastefully decorated with a lovely country charm and serene garden surroundings. It's location is ideal for getting anywhere in the North Berks...only minutes away from Adams, Mt. Greylock and Pittsfield and a short drive to North Adams, Williamstown and Tanglewood. [NOTE: In the area itself my cell reception was non-existent and my wife's was minimal...it is located in a what appears to be a cellular dead-zone at least for AT&T and T-Mobile, just an FYI. After going cold turkey for a day though, I actually enjoyed not having it]. We stayed in Garden Gate and had the twin beds converted to a king...we would not have been able to tell had we not already known - very clean, and comfy, and so quiet that it took us neurotic New Yorkers some time to acclimate to hearing nothing but crickets and the occasional frog with the windows open.

The breakfasts were inspired. I've often found that B&Bs tend to skimp on creativity, where a spinach fritatta becomes the apex of their culinary flair. Not so here. It is very clear that Eva takes pride in her creations, and offers both variety and creativity with the meal. We got an array of colorful choices (literally...on July 4th, she offered up "Red", "White" and "Blue" selections based on the ingredients of the dishes, and let us try some of each). Neither of us were disappointed with anything, and to make it even better, Eva is not strict with the serving times like a number of other places are (obviously you don't abuse that by staggering downstairs past noon and expecting the kitchen to be waiting for you, but all the same, neither of us are early risers and Eva didn't have a problem with this at all, which made for easy-going mornings).

Which brings me to Eva herself...she was the consummate host. Always friendly and accommodating, she took time out to help us make some choices on where to go and what to see in the area. She made dining suggestions based on where we were going to be, and didn't lead us astray once. She was happy to have a conversation with the guests, all the while letting us enjoy our time together and not being intrusive. As for going the extra yard, let me share this: after we had left, we realized that my wife had left her favorite pillow in the room (she always brings it just in case). We figured we should write it off as a sacrifice to the gods of once-over room checks. Eva found it (without us even saying anything), and let us know that she had it, and that she was boxing it up and mailing it back to us. Talk about going above and beyond the usual amount of hospitality!

I would absolutely recommend this for anyone who wants to visit the Berkshires and unwind in comfort!
