“Truly a peaceful and accommodating stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

We wanted to take a trip up to the Berkshires leading up the Fourth of July to get away from the hustle in the city, and took a shot with Harbour House based on the reviews here on TA as well as some other sites. Suffice to say, we were not disappointed in the least!

The inn itself is beautiful; tastefully decorated with a lovely country charm and serene garden surroundings. It's location is ideal for getting anywhere in the North Berks...only minutes away from Adams, Mt. Greylock and Pittsfield and a short drive to North Adams, Williamstown and Tanglewood. [NOTE: In the area itself my cell reception was non-existent and my wife's was minimal...it is located in a what appears to be a cellular dead-zone at least for AT&T and T-Mobile, just an FYI. After going cold turkey for a day though, I actually enjoyed not having it]. We stayed in Garden Gate and had the twin beds converted to a king...we would not have been able to tell had we not already known - very clean, and comfy, and so quiet that it took us neurotic New Yorkers some time to acclimate to hearing nothing but crickets and the occasional frog with the windows open.

The breakfasts were inspired. I've often found that B&Bs tend to skimp on creativity, where a spinach fritatta becomes the apex of their culinary flair. Not so here. It is very clear that Eva takes pride in her creations, and offers both variety and creativity with the meal. We got an array of colorful choices (literally...on July 4th, she offered up "Red", "White" and "Blue" selections based on the ingredients of the dishes, and let us try some of each). Neither of us were disappointed with anything, and to make it even better, Eva is not strict with the serving times like a number of other places are (obviously you don't abuse that by staggering downstairs past noon and expecting the kitchen to be waiting for you, but all the same, neither of us are early risers and Eva didn't have a problem with this at all, which made for easy-going mornings).

Which brings me to Eva herself...she was the consummate host. Always friendly and accommodating, she took time out to help us make some choices on where to go and what to see in the area. She made dining suggestions based on where we were going to be, and didn't lead us astray once. She was happy to have a conversation with the guests, all the while letting us enjoy our time together and not being intrusive. As for going the extra yard, let me share this: after we had left, we realized that my wife had left her favorite pillow in the room (she always brings it just in case). We figured we should write it off as a sacrifice to the gods of once-over room checks. Eva found it (without us even saying anything), and let us know that she had it, and that she was boxing it up and mailing it back to us. Talk about going above and beyond the usual amount of hospitality!

I would absolutely recommend this for anyone who wants to visit the Berkshires and unwind in comfort!

“Always delightful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

We have stayed at the Harbour House for five consecutive summers now, and our experience has always been delightful. The inn is charming and clean, the rooms are lovely, and the proprietor, Eva, makes a wonderful breakfast. Recommended without hesitation.

“Perfect in every way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

This gorgeous but not pretentious B&B proved to be the perfect spot to meet for a long summer weekend, for my Boston friend and myself, coming from NYC. We enjoyed much of what Western Mass has to offer in terms of dance, theater, great restaurants, etc., from this perfectly-located spot midway between Lenox to the south and Williamstown to the north. The innkeeper turns out to be a gourmet cook, and her breakfast offerings were truly "to die for." She also offers extra-special touches such as hot drinks and homebaked coffeecake later in the evening, when guests arrive back from their excursions. Bottles of water were supplied in the rooms daily. Perfect!

“Amazing House, Amazing Host, Amazing Place!”

My wife and I had a truly amazing experience in The Berkshires, and it was made possible by Eva and her Harbour House Inn, a circa 1800 tavern turned into a lovely homey yet classy B&B with charm and history just dripping off the walls. We had the Field of Dreams room which is HUGE with a working fireplace, several seating areas, and private access to the massive public porch which no one else seemed to use (although they could have). The private bathroom had period details but modern functionality.

Eva the proprietor was extremely informative on everything from hiking to restaurants to shopping to attractions. And she knows the insider stuff. HER BREAKFASTS ARE TO DIE FOR. Homemade local everything, including the granola and the spreads (OK I admit, the coffee was from Columbia not Cheshire MA).

She made us feel like family, yet she attended to our needs and wishes like a fancy hotel does. The very essence of great service - attentive but totally unobtrusive. An AWESOME place. I feel it was a great bargain, and I will never stay anywhere else in Western MA (and I have family there! :) It is nicely located to go to both northern and southern Berkshire County, not to mention southern Vermont. GO STAY THERE NOW!

Room Tip: The Field of Dreams room is worth the extra dollars - palatial with fireplace and direct porch acces...

“Eva's hospitality and breakfast are fantastic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2011

This past weekend was our first stay at the Harbour House Inn. Eva could not have been more accomodating to our group. She was flexible with the timing of breakfast each day (early for the fisherman and late for the sleepy teenager) as well as arriving after a Tanglewood concert. Her breakfasts were outstanding, and she even made a birthday cake for my son. Our rooms were decorated nicely and were very clean. She was also resourceful in helping us to pick activities for our free time.
