My husband and I stayed at the Hyatt Summerfield Suites in Boston/Burlington for the week after Christmas and had a fabulous time. Note that as of 1/1/12 they changed their name to Hyatt House. The hotel is all suites, so we had a separate bedroom, bathroom, living room and fully stocked kitchen. Not just a fridge and microwave; we had a full-sized fridge and freezer with ice maker, a stove, toaster, microwave & dishwasher, along with dishes, bowls, utensils, pots, pans, etc. We could have cooked an entire meal if we chose. Both the bedroom and living room had large, flat screen TVs and the living room had a DVD player. The front desk lends out DVDs at no charge. The amenities in the room included soap, shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste. They also gave us dish soap, dishwasher detergent and paper towels for the kitchen. I toured a 2-bedroom suite while we were there and what was great is that each bedroom has its own private bathroom. The suites are really like apartments and they're great.
Our original plans included lots of sightseeing, which didn't happen. The only place we went was to the JFK Library. The hotel was so comfortable and homey that we chose to stay there most of the time. We read books, played word games on the Kindle, watched movies and relaxed. The hotel has a 24-hour Fitness Center (with a TV), which we used every day. It was great just spending time together without the pressures of work and other responsibilities. There is an outdoor pool and whirlpool, which were closed this time of year. If you do want to do some Boston sightseeing, this is a great alternative to a Boston hotel, which can be very expensive. You'll have to drive in and park, but you'll save a ton of money.
The hotel offers a free breakfast buffet daily. It has a very nice selection including fresh fruit, a variety of cereals, bread/bagels/muffins/pastries, eggs and either bacon or sausage. Coffee, a nice selection of hot tea (they don't have hot chocolate, so bring your own packets if you'd like some during breakfast), juices and several types of milk round out the breakfast buffet.
Monday thru Thursday they have an evening social, which they say is there to "tide you over until dinner". Well, let me tell you, you can make it your dinner if you want to save money on eating out. Each day they had salad, soup, raw veggies with dip, potato chips, tortilla chips, salsa and shredded cheese. Then, each day they also had something hot, such as pizza, meatballs, mac & cheese, etc. Along with all that they also have fountain drinks. Remember, this is all included in your room fee.
Within walking distance of the hotel, there is a shopping center with several food choices, which I will review separately. "Fresh City" and "Not Your Average Joe's" were both great. We ordered from them several times and brought the food back to the hotel. This saved us a fortune in eating out and also saved us a lot of time. Eating in the comfort of our room was great. We only went out to eat in a restaurant one time. We went to "Gustazo Cuban Cafe" (which I'll also review separately), a small place offering Cuban food.
Between the breakfast, the evening social and ordering in from local places, we didn't spend very much money on food overall. We went to a supermarket early on and got bottled iced tea, a gallon of spring water and a few other items like cheese, fruit, yogurt, granola bars, microwave popcorn, hot chocolate, etc. My husband had brought a few bottles of wine from home so with all that, we were pretty set. The hotel has an area near the front desk where they sell some food items and beverages. They are on the expensive side, so it's worth it to stop at a supermarket and stock up.
Every interaction with an employee was great. They all went out of their way to be helpful. They kept the breakfast and evening social well stocked and the area very clean.
I honestly don't have a single complaint. My only suggestion would be for them to enclose the pool and whirlpool to make them year-round. Other than that it's a perfect place and we will definitely be back.
