Stayed for 3 nights as a base for a Boston area visit. This was an okay place, but is definitely a lower-tier Country Inns & Suites and I had a few issues there.
First problem was that they did not have the type of room that I reserved, despite the fact that I reserved it at the 21-Day Advance Purchase Offer non-refundable rate (which was a good rate). So instead of the 2 Queen room I reserved, my room turned out to be a one-bedroom suite, which is arguably a better room, but less ideal when staying with a one and four year old that we would prefer to have sleep in the same room as ours. After seeing the room, I asked for the 2 Queen room we reserved, but was told that the only ones left were Smoking rooms. No thanks.
Also, our reservation requested a crib for our room. There was not one in our room when we checked in, but they brought us one as soon as we asked. Not a big deal, but I was left with the feeling that they were not totally organized or prepared.
The room itself was fine. It was clean and seemed to have been updated within the past few years. The bathroom was a little cramped, and the door configuration made it difficult to get in and out while giving the little ones baths. The room had a safe, refrigerator, and microwave. Both rooms in the suite had TVs.
The indoor pool was okay. The water didn’t seem crystal clear, but it didn’t seem dirty either. I spotted a few dead flies around the edge of the pool. The tile around the pool seemed especially slippery when wet, and both of my young kids slipped and fell at least once while walking outside of the pool.
Breakfast was good, but not as good as I’ve had at other hotels of the same chain. Hot foods included a waffle maker and a selection of three items, usually powdered eggs, bacon or sausage, and potatoes. There was also cereal, fruit, yogurt, and a variety of danishes or other breads. Not the best breakfast, but good for feeding your family for free and no excuses for walking away hungry.
The staff was friendly and helped with whatever they could.
The hotel isn’t located near any attractions that we wanted to see, but there were some shops including a Wal Mart a few minutes away. This was convenient, though it was the type of Wal Mart that has shopping carts fitted with electronic wheel locks, so I wondered how great of an area we were in. The drive to downtown Boston was about 25 minutes, without traffic.
Though I wasn’t thrilled with this hotel, if I had to stay in Brockton again I would probably stay at this hotel because there didn’t seem to be many better options. If I were staying in the general Boston area again and didn’t have to be in Brockton, I’d probably try to find another suburb with better options.
