The good:
Our Cherry Room was clean and nicely decorated. The queen-size bed was comfortable and the room had a TV. The shower was small but adequate.
The not-so-good:
The outside of the house needs work including a new coat of paint, weeding, trimming, and window washing.
The living room was dark and musty with a pile of bedding left on one of the chairs throughout our four nights/five days stay. Two bar stools greeted us each morning in the living room. (The stools were used to block the entrance to the kitchen when the innkeeper, Debbie, left for the day.) It was not an inviting place to spend time in.
The Dining Room was small. Three small tables with 10 chairs filled the room. There was no room for other dining room-type furniture. The wall paper was coming unglued in several places and needed to be re-glued or replaced.
Breakfast, each day, consisted of eggs (any way you wanted them), or French Toast -- no other entrees were available. Bacon, sausage, hash browns, muffins/special breads, cereal, and specialty dishes were NOT available. Debbie boasted about her gourmet omelets. Unfortunately, they were far from being gourmet.
Niceties that we are accustomed to finding in other B&Bs such as a guest mini-refrigerator, cold drinks (for a nominal charge), tea or coffee in the evening with freshly made cookies/brownies were NOT offered at this B&B. Fortunately, the Brewster General Store, a short drive from the B&B, was open to 10:00 p.m. to buy a cup of tea or coffee and/or a snack. No morning newspaper was in evidence.
In conclusion, Debbie needs to book herself into a few well regarded B&Bs to check out their operations in order to bring her level of a B&B experience up to par with her competition.

We take our business and our customers experience very seriously and never want to be in the position where the guest is unhappy.
When someone writes a review so mean there must be something more to the story - there is.
In this case, the guest was irked about:
- They could not have unlimited access to the Bed & Breakfast kitchen, and also
- I would not schedule a special breakfast 2 hours before normal breakfast time, specially for them on one of the mornings.
About the kitchen - since I am responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of all of my guests, and subject to Food Service requirements by the Board of Health, I do not feel it is appropriate or proper to allow guests access to the kitchen or the kitchen refrigerator where all of the food for the Inn is stored. All of the Inns in this area have their kitchens closed off to guests. These guests were offered a choice of rooms, one of which had a fridge in the room for $10 more per day. The details and amenities of each room they were considering were discussed with them. If the fridge was so important - they should have opted for the room with the fridge. They demanded ice be brought to their room each day at 6 p.m. We do not have room service, but I did this to try to accomodate them. And not a small amount of ice - they wanted several trays of ice which they used to load up their cooler. Most motels even have signs saying that their ice machines are not to be used to fill up coolers.
As for the breakfast request 2 hours prior to usual breakfast hours - We are a small family run bed and breakfast. We do not have room service. We offer breakfast from 8 - 9:30 and it is cooked to order for each guest. We felt that requesting breakfast be cooked for them at 6 a.m. was not something we can accomodate. I advised them where they could get coffee and donuts or a light breakfast at that very early hour.
These guests complemented me on breakfast the first morning. They had omelettes. She also complemented me on the cooking of her eggs another morning. I find it interesting that she said the opposite in this review. In 4 days these guests never missed a breakfast, the husband also ordered 2 entrees on the last day and ate everything. If breakfast was so bad, why did they keep coming back? On one of the days these guests suggested to me that we offer our omelettes with American Cheese instead of the Cheddar cheese that we use. I find this curious. Is processed American cheese "gourmet"? I regularly get complemented on my omelettes and on our breakfasts. This is the first time that someone has complained about our omelettes. We offer a nice amount of food, guests get to choose what they would like and if they choose omelettes - which ingredients are included. Food is presented nicely with fruit, and we are regularly told that our breakfasts are very filling, and that the guests appreciate being able to choose. We do offer ham in our omelettes (guest's choice) and cereal is available.
Most of the other reviews state how good the breakfasts and the omelettes are. They also list how helpful we are with suggestions on attractions in the area and how knowledgeable we are too. Again it is curious with these guests - they asked for our suggestions, but never did any of the things we suggested. Of course it is their vacation and their choice, but then they complained about things they picked on their own that were not to their liking.
