ExtendedStay America Boston-Braintree
20 Rockdale St, Braintree MA 02184 is 8 miles South of the Boston Convention Center. Go North on Summer St., to I-93 South [aka: Rt 1 & Rt 3) from the Convention Center. Traffic from the Conv Center after an event can take 1/2 hour to go less than a mile! Also, allow as much as an hour if going North into Boston in the morning. Accidents & road repairs can slow things down, as you know.
Date of stay 10/16-19/08
This hotel is conveniently located within 1/4 mile of the exit and entrance to the highway. Rockdale Street is off Granite Street and is almost across from Herb Chambers car dealership and up a short hill. There is a bank across the street and next door to the hotel is a Fedex/Kinkos Office store. That's real nice when you want to ship packages out as I did. Beyond the hotel, up the hill, are two office buildings. Area is quiet and safe. The South Shore Plaza shopping mall is about one-half mile south of the motel. A Shaw's Supermarket (Albertsons owns it) is 2.7 miles away and the front desk will give you print-out directions. You go past the shopping mall on state Rt 37 (Granite Street). And, when leaving the area, if you want to avoid the Boston traffic and head west, Rt 128 which goes to I-95 is nearby.
I found the room be clean, plenty large and the beds were comfortable, the recliner was a nice bonus that I rarely find in other motels. At the table, a secretary type office chair with wheels would have made it better. The heat was fine and seemed like there was a clean filter in it. I was able to open the window for some fresh air.
The TV was a typical 20" CRT...no LCD's here. Microwave was 700 watts (slow), but it had a turntable. The refrigerator was clean and would freeze things quickly.
They even provide dish towels. I always bring my own sponge (in a freezer zip bag) soaked in anti-bacterial soap, so I can wash the dishes before I use them. The bathroom was clean. Unfortunately, the light switch is tied into the exhaust fan. If you or your family likes a night light on (no stubbing of toes), bring your own, such as the mini-fluorescent ones sold for $10.00 at Home Depot. You can plug it into the bathroom shaver/drier outlet.
My room was quiet and the people I met at the hotel were fine. When there is a big convention most of the hotels & motels all around are sold out. For $110.00 a night, this is a good place to be.
I made a comment to the corporation headquarters which is:
"Your refrigerators should have the opening side next to the stove. Presently, they open next to the wall which is inconvenient. In other words, the hinge side should be the one next to the wall. Other than that, I will definitely return for more visits. You've got MainStay (Choice Hotels) beat by miles. Only problem is that there aren't enough of your hotel/motels."
