“Engaging innkeeper, beautiful house with lovely antique furniture”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

The innkeeper Ken was very kind and did everything he could to make our stay at the bed and breakfast pleasant. My husband and I stayed at Beechwood Inn for 2 days. It is within walking distance to the village of Barnstable. Barnstable has many little shops, resteraunts, and a beach. There are a few things that could be improved at the inn. I was reading some of the other reviews and do agree that the breakfasts served were far too sweet, a balance of sweet and savory would be nice. The bed was way too firm for my liking. The inn was clean, however, the housekeeper needs to do some detail work, example-the windows needed cleaned, the tops of the furniture were dusted but I noticed that the remaing parts were dusty. The yard was nice except for two areas: one was a garden with weeds, the other abandon dog houses. If these things were taken care of this inn would get an excelent rating from me.

Room Tip: We took a tour of the house. The attic room appears quiet and it is very cute with angled ceiling...

“Very welcoming innkeeper with great local knowledge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

Ken was an exceptionally helpful and interesting host for our 2 day visit. After 17 years here he knows all the ins and outs of the restaurant options and best places to see on the Cape. The Inn is quite elegant with beautiful antiques. We would definitely return here when we get back to Cape Cod.

“Beechwood Inn - September 2011 Wonderful Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Just got back from a great 3-night trip with my husband, celebrating our 1-year wedding anniversary. From the moment we arrived we knew we made a great decision deciding to stay here. Ken, our inn-keeper, was definitely born for this job. One of the most hospitable, kind, and extremely knowledgeable people we've ever met, he made us feel comfortable and at home right away.

He showed us to our room, a third-floor, seemingly attic-type room (but not the dirty, storage attic one would imagine), known as the Garrett Room. Rather, this room was clean, quaint, old-fashioned, and covered wall-to-wall with beautiful old wood, which made us feel like we jumped back in time (in a good way). The bathroom was pretty new looking with that old charm to it, and had double sinks (a luxury for us coming from a small Queens apartment with a tiny sink).

Breakfast each morning was a pleasant surprise of various baked delicacies, prepared fresh by his hired chef. As we ate, we engaged in pleasant conversation with other guests, as well as Ken, about what to do, where to visit, and places to eat during our time on the Cape. Ken was like an endless encyclopedia of knowledge when it comes to all things Cape Cod-related. We were very impressed.

The area where the inn is located is right on the main street of 6A, but nestled off the street so you don't feel like you're on a main road. The inn is surrounded by beautiful old beechwood trees (hence the name), and the area directly around the inn boasts tons of restaurants and cute antique shops, and is in a great location central to the cape. Only an hour from Provincetown and no more than 15-30 minutes to other towns. We definitely took advantage of the central location and covered a decent amount of the Cape during our short stay there.

Overall, this was a great place to stay and I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a beautiful, charming and old-fashioned inn with an extremely personal touch. It would have been nice to meet the golden retrievers others mentioned in this review (we didn't see any), but that definitely doesn't change my opinion of this place at all, which is 5-stars, A+!

“Rode out Hurricane Irene here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Everything is historic about this bread and breakfast--the beech tree, the furniture, the tales from the innkeeper. Granted, we were without power for a few days due to Hurricane Irene, but Ken, the owner, did his best to take care of us--even finding hot coffee at a nearby town that had power, and firing up his stove top to make us a hot breakfast. We enjoyed Hyannis and Provincetown, thanks to his restaurant and sight seeing recommendations. The old inn is beautiful and well maintained. I had never been to Cape Cod before, but from driving around the area, Barnstable seems to be in an excellent spot from which to tour the cape--close to everything, and not on the tacky souvenir, put put golf row. It is on 6A--a highway that is historic in itself. Keep in mind that it IS old--but Ken has done his best to bring it up to our comfort standards. If you like B and B's you can't go wrong here.

Room Tip: The website has a very good description of all the rooms--just choose one that suits you.

“Disappointing B&B”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011 via mobile

Comfortable rooms. Decent food (i.e. Breakfast). Nonetheless being in a B&B we would have expected personnalized services which we did not get. For example, Wifi was not working, beach towels were out of stock (we had to buy ours), old and noisy television, was not as clean as should be, limited information on local activities. Good cookies...

I'm sorry that "Montreal" did not have a good experience at Beechwood Inn and chose to write his review rather than telling me.
Responding to each of Montreal's statements:
1. The couple RAVED about the breakfasts like so many of the tripadvisor reviews, so the rating of "decent"??
2. I gave the couple plenty of personal attention even with a full inn for Labor Day weekend:
a. I described restaurants whose menus are in the parlor, made reservations for them and gave them driving directions
b. They wanted to go to the beach for their one full day on Cape Cod so I described 5 different nearby beaches and gave them driving directions for each
c It was raining on the morning they left. As their transportation was a motorcycle, I held my umbrella over Montreal as he packed the storage units on his motorcycle
3. Montreal had 1 full day to enjoy Cape Cod and chose to go to the beach. There are 21 brochures and schedules for Cape Cod activities in the parlor. Additionally, there are copies of the best guidebook for Cape Cod that is available for guests to take with them
4. The effects of hurricane Irene and the loss of electric power for 2 full days just days before Montreal's arrival had an impact on their comments as follows:
a. WiFi crashed like so many other computers/networks on Cape Cod during the outage. I had to wait in line for technical support to fix the problem. It is now working perfectly again.
b. After 2 days of no electricity the inn had piles of laundry. I prioritized guest room sheets and towels over beach towels. By the time Montreal was ready to go out I had given out all the clean beach towels. I offered to go buy some for them and that was declined. I told them to take the room towels and that was declined.
c The tv cable service was still degraded when electric power was restored. The previous guest in Montreal's room mis-adjusted the volume control. If I had been told, the fix takes less than one minute. Since the digital upgrade to our cable service all of Beechwood Inn's have brilliant picture and excellent sound.
I believe Montreal's review is an anomaly as well as directly caused by the effects of the biggest storm on Cape Cod in 20 years. It should be removed.
Thank you!
