“Graciousness and attention to detail”

As my husband and I were on the boat heading over to Smith Island, I questioned who would want to go to such an isolated place. But Tylerton, Smith Island, and specifically the Inn of Silent Music, is a gem. If you are looking for a lot to do, then don’t go to Tylerton (or anywhere on Smith Island, for that matter). If, however, you are looking for a peaceful, romantic, zen-like weekend, then check out the Inn. Linda and Rob, the inn keepers, are incredibly gracious. Guests are met at the dock, given a quick orientation of the island, and then luggage is transported to the Inn. Meals are spectacular. Breakfast is delicious and very filling; you won’t need lunch. We made the rookie mistake of running out of cash, and the innkeepers fronted us the cash to get a Smith Island cake (which they ordered for us). We had to leave on the 7 a.m. ferry, so they packed a breakfast to go for us. I was having an asthma flare up, and they drove me down to the dock….and on and on…. Just incredible graciousness and attention to detail. We will be back.

“Inn is special”

My husband and I spent 3 days in October here. The innkeepers, Rob and Linda Kellogg, were very accommodating and helpful in sharing about their unique island. Maybe the food was the best part. The breakfast was always unique and scrumptious. There was always a basket of granola bars in the living room for snacking between meals. Dinner, not included, was a 4 course meal made with local catch from the waters around the island. Evidently, Linda had been a private chef before they purchased the B & B, so she entered with some of the right skills. Although the dinner was not included, it was very much worth the cost ($25pp). In reality, there was no place else on the island to get supper!! Bottom line...take advantage of this beautiful, restful place on this quiet island in the Chesapeake Bay.

Room Tip: There are only 3 rooms in the inn. I think the rooms on the second floor give you a better view than...

“A Sublime Foodie Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We weathered a Nor'easter at this pleasant inn, so we didn't get to go biking or kayaking as we had hoped. But from our comfortable second floor room overlooking the water, we had a very restful weekend reading, eating, napping and eating somemore. And the food was not only delicious, but healthy as well. Innkeepers Linda and Rob are wonderful, interesting people, and Linda is a divine but very modest chef. When we recommended that she give cooking classes, she demurred. But one taste of her rockfish with crabmeat, butternut squash soup or blue crab chowder, and you will give her the same encouragement.

Room Tip: We had the largest room with the most water views, the Black Walnut.

“An Island From The Past”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

Smith Island, off the coast of Maryland and about an hour's boat trip from Crisfield, is actually three islands - Tylerton, Ewell, and Rhodes Point. A trip there is a step back in time, to when fishing villages were a way of life for many people. Tylerton is unique in today's world in that the people there live in some ways just as they did a hundred years ago. They are some of the friendliest, most accommodating people anywhere. The Drum Point Market is a must-visit - best crabcakes anywhere! And the Inn of Silent Music - how many accolades can you think of? Linda & Rob, the owners, are wonderful hosts who seem to have thought of everything. This was our 4th time there (having been there with the previous owners, who also were terrific), and we enjoyed our visit immensely. Jasmine, their big black lovable canine, was an added treat. (She's really almost human.) The food was 4-star, both the dinner and the breakfast. We look forward with great anticipation to our next visit.

Room Tip: One downstairs room, with a view both of the back garden and the water. All of the rooms are fine.

“One of Best B&B experiences we have had.”

If you are looking for a quiet, scenic place, you will love this place. The inn itself was very nice, very comfortable. The food, seafood, is as good as it gets. We were blown away by the meals, and the caring, attention to detailed hosts, Rob and Linda, and of course Jazmine the dog.

During our weekend stay,we were treated to am inproptu tour by a local waterman of his soft crab business, a wonderful boat ride w/ an 85 year old waterman to the town of Ewell, and my wife was asked to play piano in the local Methodist Church for the Sunday evening service! I think we met and spoke w/ 30 of the 59 local residents. Also, if you wish, arrangements can be made to do a day on the water w/ a local waterman, fishing, kayaking and canoeing.

This is a place and a way of life that is slowly disappearing. Very quiet beautiful and very friendly place. If you enjoy that sort of thing along w/ a desire to meet people you won't meet anywhere else, you will love this place.

PS..I read the review above by the musician that did not care for the place...You don't get it..
