Just returned from an overnight for our anniversary. Stayed in the Ameila Suite which was very nice. Well-decorated, elegant bathroom, okay bed (the mattress was hard and the feather top well-past needing to be replaced), nice fireplace. Let's face it, in a hotel or inn, it's really about the bed. It's the reason I love Marriott's so much, because they've got that figured out for $90 a night.
The evening meal was really a mixed experience. This is the second time we've been there in the past 2 years and the meal was noticeably not as good this time. The filet mignon was much smaller than previous year and it was cooked rare, not medium as requsted. The sea bass was covered in a rich sauce which was too heavy for my taste, but it was needed to mask the fishy taste of the sea bass - not the freshish. Cream of crab soup was just okay. They missed the intermezzo entirely and failed to bring our after meal coffee that was requested. Don't get me wrong, it's still a wonderful experience, but we have to say we've had better meals in chain restaurants like Bonefish Grill for less than a quarter the price. Service was extremely attentive, despite the few misses. They have a great staff that are eager to please. Surroundings are very quaint.
This is the place to go to for special occasions and they certainly have the setting and model right, but a few things do need improvement to justify the prices. The combination of a meal and the room for one night was $450 which included 4 glasses of wine with the meal.
