“A great place for a romantic get-away. We'll be back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2010

We enjoyed a luxuriois romantic weekend at this beautiful B&B tucked away near Columbia, MD and BWI airport. The Joshua Barney House is the beautifully restored national historic landmark less than 40 minutes away from home. We loved our room--plush towels and bathrobes, very comfortable queen bed, private bath and sitting room. Susan, has done a wonderful job restoring and decorating each of the guest rooms, the entry foyer, formal living and dining rooms, library and patios. An impressive collection of Antique grandfather clocks are located throughout the home. Outside, we enjoyed the flowers blooming everywhere around the lush 7 acre property. With the luck of having beautiful weather, we were able to take our breakfast on one of the garden patios and enjoy friendly, funny and lively conversations with Susan. She also gave us several recommendations for restaurants nearby along with great directions. Our hats are off to Susan for operating such a lovely historic landmark and for her ability to make us feel right at home from the moment we arrived until we reluctantly returned to the real world. She is a terrific Innkeeper with the keen sense of how to make her guests feel welcome, happy and comfortable. We will be back for another visit, hopefully very soon!

“Our first experience will not be our last!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2009

We had never experienced a Bed and Breakfast so, on a whim went on an internet search for one in the DelMarVa area. Celebrating our anniversary and planning to tour Washington, D.C. we found a rare jem!
Even though it was raining upon arrival, the proprietress made every moment of our stay more than what we ever expected. She made a recommendation for the perfect dinner at "Timbuktu" made our reservation and provided directions. She allowed for just enough privacy and availability.
Headed in that direction? Make it a must stay!

“Wonderful location and GREAT Hospitality.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2007

Hospitality is more than clean sheets, linens and something to eat. Susan Betts has shown us another definition of hospitality in the beautifully appointed rooms. There are tasteful antique treasures in each room but not so much that you feel overwhelmed. The beds are the most comfortable I have had the pleasure of sleeping on away from home, and ooooh the towels in each bathroom.

Susan ensures that there is plenty of everything for each of her guests. She's remembered the things we often forget when traveling, including providing full size bath products for guests to use, and access to a fully stocked refrigerator with bottled juices, water, yogurts and other snacks. The breakfasts are light and meant to get you off to a good start but there is plenty to choose from.

The grounds are remarkable and Susan's efforts to keep the gardens in continual bloom and color are noteworthy. Make sure you note the large waterfall outside your bedroom window! You'll feel completely secure as you punch in your code to this expanse of gated property. The history of this home is well known by Susan and it was a pleasure to hear her tell us about the property per our request.

Whether you are here on business or pleasure you will feel comforted and at home, which is what we all look for really, when we are traveling. Susan's wonderful laugh and loveable personality will keep you coming back. She seems to know when you want your privacy, but is available with a push of a button should you need anything.

“Delightful and Wonderful Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2007

What a wonderful experience. The Inn was historic, elegant, quiet and restful. The grounds were blooming in full color and the peacefull waterfall would put you to sleep at night. Susan Betts, the Innkeeper was a real delight. She provided us with all the comforts of home. As we were leaving, we felt we were saying goodbye to a new friend. We would definitely recommend Susan and her fine Inn to anyone for a short or long stay.

When we return to the area, we will see her again.

“A Great Find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2007

When the last of my sisters entered her 60's, we decided to meet for a long weekend. We would be congregating in the Baltimore area and looked for a place which would fit our needs.

The Joshua Barney house turned out to be perfect! We each had beautiful rooms and met for morning coffee to plan our day. The location was ideal for our jaunts to Annapolis, the Inner Harbor and Ellicot City.

The most fun was when we gathered in the library each evening for wine and to re-hash our day and our memories.

Innkeeper Susan will no doubtly see us again. Thanks Susan.
