“Functional stay at the Residence Inn Salisbury”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

We stayed one night at the Residence Inn Salisbury on the way to the Outer Banks. The stay was fine. The hotel is clean and the room we stayed in was also clean and spacious (we were two adults and two young children). The hotel was very quiet and we slept without interruption. We had pre-ordered a crib and were pleased that it was already in the room when we arrived. The front desk was friendly and pointed us in the direction of a restaurant for dinner. We used the pool and it was fine. We did not use the gym or access internet so can't comment on those.

The breakfast was actually pretty decent considering it's included in the price of the room. There were scrambled eggs, pancakes, biscuits, fresh fruit, bagels etc. and given the amount of people that descended on the buffet in the morning, I thought the staff did a good job of keeping things stocked.

The hotel is located very conveniently off the highway so it was easy on/off for us. Lots of restaurants around (even some within walking distance) and there's a mall right across the highway.

The only negative was the smell in the elevator - it smelled like fried fish!

We'd stay there again.

“Very Disappointed!! Not up to par with typical Marriott chain.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

We always pick a Marriott chain due to what is always offered even though the price is more then others and are usually pleased with our visit but this time was a great disappointment. There are no signs directing you where to go to find the Hotel, only ones we saw were the ones on the Exit signs telling you what is at that exit. Once we arrived there was no real greeting just asking our name and providing us with our room key. I guess the conversation I overheard while we were checking in should have been a sign, there was a woman on the phone talking to somebody about a comp room for a guest stay that was not happy. We went straight to the room to check it out before we unloaded and were unable to use one of the keys b/c it was not keyed correctly. So we went back to the front desk to have, it re-keyed and apologies were made by the front desk clerk, Rebecca. Our first night there loud talking was going on in the hallway way past 10pm which should be a time for people to be in there rooms not the hallway, marriott says they will keep the noise level down and if there is a problem the patrons can be asked to leave, never happened, no acknowledgement made at all from the front desk. The pillows are really, really crappy! No support at all. We had to use a pillow from our king size bed for the pull out bed our children were using b/c there was only one provided. The king size bed was comfortable otherwise. The attendants at the breakfast bar were not friendly one bit, almost like they were robots and just moved at there own pace and filled the food at there own leisure, after everything was gone. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. Apples had black spots all over them and the bananas were turning brown, fruit looked like it was used repeatedly and not refreshed each day. All 3 days had a different choice to pick from but again it was just ok. The Canadian turkey bacon was not good, slices of thin ham that just didn't have a good flavor. Went back after serving hours (10am) to get some coffee to take with me when were leaving for the day and there was no cups. The next evening we came back from being out all day and we stopped at the "market" to get some candy bars and I wanted to take a cup of coffee back with me to the room and there was no coffee! At other Marriott's we have stayed at there is always coffee available at all hours for you to drink! I understsand we have a coffee maker in the room but I didn't want to make a whole pot for just one cup. When we said something to the front desk they offered to bring us some, it was not what I expected, the clerk brought us some more coffee grounds for the maker NOT a cup of coffee. There was a group of contractors staying at the hotel and one of them had a trailer on the back of there truck and they took up at least 5 parking spots and therefore limited the parking spaces. If you stay during the week I would NOT attend the evening socials they have during the week. We went to one and it was a joke! It starts at 6 and goes to 7:30. That particular evening they were having chicken nuggets and bbq wings and fries. We got there at 6:10 and food was already gone. There was a line of people waiting or should I say hoarding by where the food was to be just so they could get food. Why would you not already have plenty of food made for a crowd at the beginning? We waited maybe 5 more minutes and food was still not being brought out and decided to leave b/c even if we did stay we would not have gotten any food until the next time b/c from what we saw on plates of folks that got some already they had 20 plus nuggets on there plates and at least a dozen cookies on the plates too. We wanted to try it as a way to save us money on a meal for our week stay but it was not worth the hassle. On the morning we checked out we handed in our keys(don't like leaving them in the room) to the front desk and asked for another copy of our receipt and NOT once did the front desk clerk ask us how our stay was. Our experience at this Residence Inn was a great disaapointment for us and we will not be staying there for our next vacation.

“What a Differnce a Year Makes!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

We stayed here last summer and had a great stay! This year was a different story. We had a studio king for 2 nights and my daughter and her family had a one bedroom suite for 4 nights. It was a disappointment especially since they were charging almost double the normal price as a softball tournament was in town.

I was so excited to go back and called the hotel several times in advance of our stay to let them know how impotant it was to again be on he first floor and they assured me they would try to honor my request.

When we arrived, they couldn't care less and told us that a 3rd floor room was all they had left. When I told them I had called several times in advance, the uncaring lady checking us in just said "we are fully booked and thats all we have."

Perhaps, we should have asked if we could wait for a first floor room to be ready but the clerk was quite adament about us taking that room and we were so tired.

Okay, thats a disappointment but certainly not a washout.

However, when we got in our room, the air was quite stale with a chemical odor. We turned on the AC and the air quality seemed to improve. However, as soon as the AC shut off, the stale chemical smell would return. WE had to keep our thermastat turned way down and keep the ac running continuously or the chemical smell would return. It became quite chilly and uncomfortable.but that was better than the smell.

Other things not working were the lights over the bar and our coffemaker. We tried to get a new one the 2nd day but the staff was clueless and acted as if they didn't know where extras coffeemakers were kept. We finally received a new one on the morning of our departure after several more calls to the desk.

Our daughter also had problems. She was never able to pick up a Internet signal in her room and had to go in the hall to get her email.

In spite of checking in 4 persons in her room, they never gave her more than 3 towels daily. They had to go to the desk EVERY day to get enough towels for her family. On the last night, no extra toilet tissue was left in their room, and they had to go to the desk and ask for more. That sounds like a Motel 6.

Well, it wasnt horrible stay but just a huge disappointment. The uncaring attitude toward us was evident and next year we will be seeking a facility which takes better care of our needs.

“Very pleased with this hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2011

We highly recommend the Residence Inn to anyone traveling to the Eastern Shore who is looking for nice accommodations and a friendly, eager-to-please staff. This hotel is conveniently located to restaurants and shopping (there is a mall across the street), and is only about a 30-minute drive to Ocean City. Despite it being off a major highway, the area is quiet and peaceful. The rooms are very clean, and the in-room kitchenettes well-furnished with utensils, dishes, full-size refrigerator with ice-maker, and a dishwasher. There is a daily breakfast buffet from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. with quite a variety of food to choose from, as well as a small "market" in the lobby area that is open 24-7 to purchase snacks and drinks. We were very comfortable during our stay, and definitely would definitely use this hotel again if we are in the area.

“nice hotel right off the main highway - inexpensive place to break up a drive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2010

We travel from NY to NC every year, this year we decided to make a half way stop. we checked into the residence inn early & enjoyed the pool with our kids. it was very nice.
There are lots of restaurants close by. there is plenty of room for the entire family to sit & enjoy the tv.
*this was a one bedroom room. it had a living room/kitchen area & then a separate bedroom w/ the bathroom off the bedroom. We shared this room with my sister & her daughter, so it was a little awkward that she had to walk through our bedroom to go to the bathroom. But other than that it was GREAT for what we paid to stay there!
Free breakfast & good high speed internet.
