“Our 30th wedding anniversary trip was absolutely perfect because we chose to stay at Dr. Dodson House in St. Michael's.”
My husband and I recently stayed at Dr. Dodson House in St. Michael's, Maryland. It was a trip to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary on October 25th. We had previously visited St. Michael's in 2008 and enjoyed the area. Once we made the decision to return to the area, we decided to stay in a different B&B from our previous trip. I did some research and we decided to make reservations at Dr. Dodson House. From my very first phone call to make reservations, I was very impressed with Janet, our innkeeper. She was friendly and informative and I couldn't wait to meet her in person. When we arrived on Friday, October 22nd, we found the B&B very easily and were quite pleased to see that we were only a block off of the main street of town. Janet met us at the door and welcomed us as if we were family. She ushered us into the beautifully decorated front parlor where she gave us each a menu to choose our breakfast for the next two days. I chose one selection and my husband chose another so we could try both each day. Janet next gave us a tour of the home and showed us to our room. It was on the second floor and absolutely lovely. I highly recommend that you choose the Dr. Dodson bedroom if it is availalble. The white wrought iron bed looked very inviting and, as we found out that first night, was a dream to sleep on. The linens were of first rate quality and delightful to snuggle into that evening. Everything in the room was beautifully appointed from the wall color to the furniture to the wonderful glassed-in shower in the bathroom. There was even a flat screen TV if you needed to catch up on the outside world. Outside of our room, in the hallway, was a wonderful little area with a small refrigerator and coffee maker with an extensive array of flavor choices. From that hallway you could go outside on the second floor veranda where there were some very comfortable chaise lounges and chairs where you could enjoy the lovely morning air. I spent one beautiful afternoon reading and enjoying the carrillon bells from one of the local churches. The first morning coming down to breakfast was a treat. There was lovely Parisian music in the background and some very delicious scents coming from the open doorway in the dining room. Janet greeted us with juice and our first course, a fresh fruit cup for me and freshly baked muffins for my husband. Then came the main course. I had chosen the french toast which was unlike any I have ever experienced. It was topped with sliced almonds and melted in your mouth. It was accompanied by an organic chicken and apple sausage which was absolutely delicious. My husband had a mushroom omelet with sausage and it was also quite delicious. I could go on and on about the food because it was so wonderful. The second morning we had pecan waffles and eggs benedict and the third morning was a carmelized tomato and onion tart amd fresh blueberry cheese blintzes. Our last morning we were able to pick our favorite from the previous days and I chose the french toast again. Every day our room was freshened and we even had the opportunity to have a fire in our fireplace if we wanted it. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your perspective, we didn't get to have a fire because the weather was unseasonably warm at 75 degrees each day and we actually slept with a window open one night. Perhaps our next visit will be cooler and we can use the fireplace. Everything was within walking distance of the B&B which made it nice. We parked the car and didn't have to drive unless we chose to venture out of St. Michael's. The shops and boutiques were wonderful and I was able to do some early Christmas shopping. We participated in a fundraiser at one of the small local parks and my husband was able to eat blue crabs to his heart's content. I think that was one of the highlights of the trip for him since he used to live in the Delaware area and missed that particular delicacy. There are so many things I could praise about our trip but I guess the best thing to say would be that we will be back and we will be staying at Dr. Dodson House. Janet is a spectacular hostess who will make you feel like family and keep you entertained with the many exciting adventures from her life. She was a joy and we look forward to returning in the future.
