This is my one and only horror story about a hotel stay (sadly). Never before (and we have stayed in many hotels in North America and Europe) we have had to get dressed, pack up and leave a hotel at 2AM (!!!!) to go find another place to stay.

Their walls are paper thin, so are the windows (that face the inner loby) and if you are there on a weekend when they have some kind of party going on - you are NOT going to get any sleep AND the hotel staff is not going care one bit.

We had people partying in the room right next to ours at 1:30 AM and even their customer service (which we called as a last resort, because the front dest did not even answer the phone anymore) told us to "just leave".

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!

Dear Traveler,

I'm very sorry about your experience at our hotel in August. First and foremost, there is never an excuse for poor service. An experience like this is not indicative of our hotel, its service or quality. A guests' main purpose for being at a hotel is to rest and sleep, and I apologize you couldn't do either of those.

I ask that should your travels bring you back to our neighborhood, please give us another chance to stay with us. I know your experience will be much better. I am talking to all associates involved during that time of your stay to ensure we improve our service in these areas. Thanks for sharing your experience so that we may improve our deficiencies.

Sincerely,

Chris

The inside of the room was beautiful, however, the hotel is very dark and gloomy everywhere else. The walls are very, very thin. My husband and I both had to wear ear plugs just to get to sleep because of our neighbors. The front desk person tried to be helpful but was rather overbearing and full of himself. I had to wait 15 minutes to check into our room because there was only one person working at the front desk. Overall, our stay was not really all that pleasant. On the positive, it is close to the Shady Grove Metro Station and several restaurants.

Dear Traveler,

I'm sorry you didn't have a restful stay at our hotel. I reviewed your notes regarding noise issues and your concerns for our dark design and decor.

In the future, please let our guest services team know if a neighboring guest is being disruptive. We want all of our guests to have a restful stay at our hotel, and we could have contacted the guest to quiet down.

As for our decor and design, the Crowne Plaza Rockville was redesigned and renovated to have a boutique-style to it, and many of our colors are earth tones, thus the darker feeling. I'll be sure to note your comments as we plan for future design changes, maybe we need to consider lighter shades with decor if its just too dark.

Thanks for taking the time to give us feedback on our hotel. We appreciate it and hope you may consider us again should your travels come back to our neighborhood.

At Your Service,

Chris

My husband and I stayed here on a weekend getaway. Our room was very spacious (king bed) and was full of "extras" - bottled water, a gift bag filled w/ a relaxation CD, eye mask, ear plugs, and lavender linen spray ... The bed was very comfortable, too! I would highly recommend this hotel. The lobby staff was also very friendly.

Thanks for your kind words about our hotel!

The amenities at the end of your bed are part of the Crowne Plaza Sleep Advantage Program. It's our committment to having each of our guests have a restful night sleep. Some are sensitive to sound, light, or just need a nice smell to relax! Regardless, the amenities make the stay more comfortable, and I'm happy you got to experience this!

I'm also pleased you found our team to be friendly and helpful. I'll be sure to pass that onto our associates.

We look forward to seeing you next time you visit our neighborhood!

Regards,

Chris

We arrived at the hotel late after driving 8+ hours. Upon inspecting the room we found hairs in the bed and bathroom sink - but the worst was discovering that the bathroom could not have been cleaned at all since the previous person had a 'tummy problem' that had not even been flushed, let alone properly cleaned.

The management first claimed the hotel was full, but upon insisting that we be moved or the room cleaned, he found a room for us, but didn't assist us with our luggage during the move.

The ice machines were also not working because of a water pressure problem and we were told to go to the bar to get ice - no offers to bring ice to the room for us.

We were also not offered anything for our troubles, even after contacting them via e-mail after our stay.

Couldn't wait to leave the next moring. Disgusting!

Dear Guest,

I'm very sorry you encountered the problems you had at our hotel. There is never an excuse for poor service or a dirty room. I apologize for this situation, it is not typical of the high standards we hold ourselves to at Crowne Plaza Rockville.

I have spoken with the management team regarding how this was handled to ensure this does not happen again. The associates you encountered have been coached on proper response to guest concerns so that it doesn't happen in the future.

Ice Machine: my apologies for this. During the summer, these machines get used so much for filling coolers that they sometimes cannot keep up with the demand. We have now worked with our restaurant to ensure that we can get ice for guests when they need it.

I'm sorry that I wasn't aware of these matters, as I would not have let you leave dissatisfied. If there is something I can do to win you back, please let me know. We have made many changes to improve our hotel since your stay and I hope that we can have you stay with us again should your travels bring you back to our neighborhood.

Sincerely,

Chris

My wife and I recently stayed here for several days. I had business in the area and she came along to keep me company. The hotel seemed nice from the website . The front desk went from helpful and competent to totally inept. The room was nice, clean and large. Both rooms we occupied were tastefully decorated (identical). The beds were comfortable and the towels and linens were fine. Unfortunately, the first room faced the interstate and unless the air conditioner was on, you heard the traffic. . The next day we moved to a quieter room. We had problems with the Internet in the second room throughout our stay. The wireless internet, although showing a very strong signal didn't work. They also had a network that we could plug into but we had to reboot their modem constantly to maintain service.
This hotel is in the shape of a square doughnut. The center is an atruim that is actually a banquet hall. Half of the rooms face the atrium. If you like watching weddings and bar mitzvah's, you're in business. Otherwise, ask for a room facing the outside. However, the outside rooms in the back face the interstate and the north end faces the cooling tower (three story air conditioner) where the huge fan sounds like an airplane taking off. They give you ear plugs and eye shades to help you cope. No kidding.
When checking out, we found we were charged a higher rate than agreed to. Although the desk clerk said it would be taken care of on Monday, I had to contact the hotel to get the credit I deserved.
While the stay was OK, there were many little things that were annoying. I don't think we will be staying here in the future unless there is no other choice.

Dear Road Maven,

Thank you so much for your feedback regarding your stay at our hotel. It sounds like you did encounter a "split" in your stay; the rooms were nice and staff was helpful, but when problems occurred we didn't take care of them very well. My apologies for these issues, and I'm sorry we didn't get them corrected.

Internet: wireless service can be tricky in older hotels, as they were not built with many of these technological advances in mind. Since your visit, we have fortified our complimentary internet service, as we are finding more and more guests using it for more than just e-mail. This requires more service available, and we are continuing to evaluate our needs so this doesn't happen again.

Hotel layout/design: there isn't much we can do about the layout of the hotel, but we do our best to make it comfortable. Each guest has different sensitivities to noise, light, or sleep comfort, and the amenities (ear plugs, eye mask, lavender spray, sleep CD) are purposefully put there as part of the Crowne Plaza Sleep Advantage Program. We recognize that each guest is different, and we provide items to help every one of our guests have a restful sleep. I'm sorry these weren't helpful for the issues you encountered.

Billing: I'm sorry this happened. We have since then done training to encourage and empower our guest services to respond better to guest needs during the stay so that problems don't occur after you leave.

My apologies for the problems during your stay. We are working hard to improve each day, and we appreciate your help and input. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of service.

Sincerely,

Chris
