“homecoming weekend”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2011

I wanted to cancel my stay because I did not feel well but I couldn't. I went down becasue I promised my daughter and it was her first homecoming being at UMES. I got there and the lady at the front desk was extremly polite ( Phyllis), she checked me in and I went up to my room. I could not belive how much trash was on the outside of the building. I got up to my room (229) and there was a chair in from of the window to my room with a plate of of food that was old on it. the wind had just then blown the food on the walkway by the door to my room. I went on and opened the door and the room was a queen rooma nd it was so extremely small that I was feling closterphobic. As I said I was not feeling well and it was a little chilly in the room, I went to look for the thermostat to find out there wasn't one! I looked on the table and the was a oscillating heater, (are you kiddin me?) I called to the front desk and the told me that theonly room that they had left was a smoking room of which I could not do. They suggested that I turn the heater on and leave it running and teh room would get warm. I did and tried it for a while and the wind was blowing so hard that it was coming under the door, I called and asked for more blankets and I given two and told to put a towel at the door. I had no strength or energy to try to find another hotel. I was freezing in that room. I unforunately could not go to any activities at the homecoming becasue I was sicka nd had to stay in the room, there was running up and down the walkway at late hours and when I got up the next morning I went into the bathroom and the tiles were not completly glued to the floor and I hit my toes on them, ugh. I opened teh room door and there was still food on the walkway , i saw the cleaning people thining they would clean it up, and they went right by it. I had one more night to get thru this horror. I asked for the manager and was told the he/she would not be back untill monday. I asked who was in charge and they told me no one and that they would try to take care of me next time. I said next time? are you kiddin me? what are you going to do about this time? they walked away and said nothing.... Horrible time, don't ever go there.

“One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2010

We chose the hotel for it's location on route to the Outer Banks - a quick overnight. It was filthy, the parking area behind the hotel was a mess - rubish. The room was dirty, toilet not attached to the floor, carpet nasty - there was a roach. When we arrived at midnight there were about 6 people partying on the balcony near our room. My 5 and 7 year old heard some foul language and were wondering what was wrong with those people. Breakfast was stale (muffin) and the eating area was dirty. Do not ever stay here!

“Econolodge”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2010

The pictures on the hotel are beautiful but they must have been years ago. The rooms are dark and dusty-looking. There was a musty smell in the room as well as the lobby. Two light bulbs were blown, the iron had a short and the ironing board pad did not fit...so it slid off when ironing. When calling the front desk to get new light bulbs we received a nasty tone. The lightbulbs we were given were did not match each other. The pull out bed was dusty and the mattress was sunk in and crappy. Signs indicate that the front desk is 24 hours but when you call afterhours the owner answered the phone with an attitude. He cursed at us in his language and yelled at the top of his lungs. All I wanted was an extra pillow. He told me to come and get it! Other hotels offer nice accomodations at all hours and for a much cheaper rate.

“was supposed to stay there but thankfully didn't”

I booked a room here to cash in my reward points thru Choice Privileges. We showed up to check in and we were told by the front desk that we had to pay 18.00, I stated that I had used Reward points many times and never had to pay a penny. She told me "Don't you know that nothing is ever really free"and that I would have to pay. I called Choice and turns out I was right. (I had already known this)This hotel had just started participating and didn't know exactly how it worked. Maybe believe your prospective guest a little or when contacted by the Choice customer service people .... try believing them instead she had to speak to yet another person from Choice before she would believe what we were all telling her. Frankly I don't feel like spending 45 minutes trying to check into a questionable place to stay. (don't want to call it a Hotel) Due to the problem with the front desk and the sanding of paint going on out front in which we were covered with paint chips (workers never skipped a beat as we were walking in) as was my car I just didn't want ruin my weekend by staying there. Choice was great to me which is more than I can say for the front desk who informed my husband that she couldn't cancel my reservations. My husband let her know we were leaving and not staying there. It was very dingy and old looking and had no consideration for prospective guests. I never got past the front desk so I can't say anything about the rooms. To Choices' credit, they refunded me my reward points and they treated me with the utmost respect and went the extra mile. Too bad EconoLodge and its staff don't know how to do the same.
