“Book Unit # 508 on the TOP FLOOR ! SUNSETS R GREAT ! Unit clean sleeps 4”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Not sure WHY other comments left for this resort were negative BUT I have to say our unit # 508 at Coconut Malorie ( TOP FLOOR ) was spotless, inviting, had a coffee tray stocked and waiting for us.

The views from our private balcony was great overlooking Fagan's Island Restaurant, the sunset and water views was AWSOME from the unit # 508.
We had Clean fluffy towels, comfy queen sized bedding, and 2 TV's with cable !
You can bring breakfast items to put in the fridge, a 2 burner stove top, dishes and there IS a table seats 4 to eat at. LOVED the unit and the management ! Very friendly place to stay ! Right off the 90th Street Bridge. There is even a workout room and a pool table and game room to enjoy on the upper levels with views.

Room Tip: Ask for unit # 508... the top floor units have vaulted ceilings. YOU WON"T BE DISAPPOINTED.

“Doesn't Live Up To Its Potential”

When we first stayed here twenty years ago, this was a first-rate resort. Over time, it hasn't aged well. We have stayed here one weekend, during the winter, for the last three years. This year, the heating system was so irregular that we either had to swelter in the bedroom, or freeze in the living room. The furniture has definitely seen better days. The sofa was so uncomfortable that two people couldn't sit on it at the same time. I don't know what it would be like to sleep on it.

We really like the location; right over the lower bridge into OC, with nice views. Also, the hotel is within walking distance to Fager's Island Restaurant and Bar which is a premiere destination during the summer.

Room Tip: We stayed in 107 during the winter and the heating system was not regulated correctly.

“I will never stay in this overpriced dump again”

From start to finish the place was horrible. The hotel prides itself on being an upscale resort, and it's disgusting. We booked 3 rooms. All 3 smelled like stale indian food. The smell of mold in the hallways was disgusting. One of our rooms was only half cleaned - bed left 1/2 made, kitchen sink left with rusty sponge and dishtowel in it and dishes not put away. Bathroom not cleaned, no toiletries in the bathroom. We were moved to another room which while it didn't have an idian food smell, stunk of mold. The water pressue in the rusted shower was awful. The hot water in the bathroom sink didn't turn off unless the knob was positioned in just the right spot. The cleaning that had been done on this room was sub par. I will never, ever go back to this hotel again.

“Disappointed”

I visited the Coconut Malorie this month and I must say I was disappointed. The lobby is beautiful but the smell of mold was very distracting. The entire hallway smelled like mold. The furniture in the room was old and worn and the linen was dirty. The sponge to wash the dishes was dirty and had hair on it. Except for one person, the staff was unfriendly and had no customer service skills. I think that with better maintenance and customer service training for staff, this resort will improve. Personally, I will never know because I do not plan to return.

“The Coconut Dump”

We have stayed in the Malorie two times. The first time it was so so, we were using it as a crash pad for a week visit over Christmas. Since we weren't going to be there except to sleep it wasn't too terrible. However, the nightclub next door was very loud and it was difficult to sleep until after 2AM.
The second time we stayed there the unit we had was a dump. The heat didn't work and oddly enough it snowed 12 inches in OC that week. We were so cold, we had to bunk in with family who lived nearby. The front desk and maintenance crew tried to fix the heat, but could only make it so the heat was on or off. So you could make the unit very warm turn it off manually wait until it got chilly and then turn it on again. Not fun when you would like to sleep. Additionally we could only get hot water in the bathroom - for an unexplained reason the hot water in the kitchen took 8 - 10 minutes to become room temp. It never got hot and when trying to wash dishes this was very unsanitary. We have decided not to stay at the Malorie ever again.
