As a native Marylander, I've enjoyed get-a-ways to Ocean City, Maryland, all my life. We're talking a span of six decades and hundreds of trips. However, it was only within the past couple years that I happened upon The Princess Royale Resort while surfing the Internet looking for a change of venue.
Upon discovering this "Jewel" of Ocean City, my husband and I now stay exclusively at Princess Royale for weekend and holiday get-a-ways. Having stayed at numerous other Ocean City, MD, hotels such as The Dunes Manor, Hilton Suites Oceanfront, Courtyard by Marriott, The Grand, Best Western and others, we would not consider staying anywhere else but at Princess Royale.
What more can a vacationer ask for? Many hotel rooms are oceanfront and others are oceanview and atrium/pool view. All standard accommodations comprise full-size suites (with two 32" LCD flatscreen TV's; comfortably-furnished living room with sofabed; large kitchen (complimentary coffee) with all modern appliances, dishware, glassware, silverware, cookware and granite countertops; dinette area; bathroom with mirrored vanity and granite countertop; spacious bedroom with King or Queen-size Tempur-pedic beds (voted #1 mattress in America), and balcony/deck in most all suites. Personally, I love the soft, comfortable and warm microfiber blankets on all the beds. Of course, you can upgrade your accommodations to a King-Jacuzzi suite, or two and three-bedroom condos. Oh, don’t think about swiping the bathroom towels because they have a security sensor.
Princess Royale has two spectacular lobbies and most all amenities such as a free health club (spa service available); business center; free WiFi (great connectivity); convenience store; gift shop; valet parking; arcade and much more! You will find that the rates are very affordable and wipes out the competition.
I'm saving the best for last -- the four-story oceanfront glass atrium with Olympic-size indoor swimming pool! Hey, I'm giving away my best secrets here. The pool area also has a large indoor Jacuzzi and saunas. Just outside the atrium is a sundeck with two small hot tubs. The inside atrium area is very large and can accommodate special events such as wedding receptions and business meetings/luncheons.
Schooners Restaurant/lounge is located oceanfront within the hotel if you want a quick meal/buffet and don't wish to leave the premises. Nice, cozy ambiance! There is a horseshoe driveway at the lobby entrance for registration. Bellcart service is available. If you wish to use a bellcart, a Bellman must take your luggage to your room. A multi-level parking garage (free parking) with elevator is located just across from the hotel lobby. We have never had any issues with finding a parking space.
Princess Royale boasts 310 two-room suites and 30 two/three bedroom condos. I believe Princess Royale to be the largest resort in Ocean City, Maryland. Okay, I've been holding out on you. There are some great package deals to be had at Princess Royale (during off-season). Check out their website at: www.princessroyale.com. During the off-season, you might even get lucky enough to be upgraded to one of the condos. I’m not sure about the methodology of an upgrade, but I’ll take it if my name is pulled out of the hat. I would also like to add that Princess Royale has a great management staff. In addition, the hotel has recently undergone renovations to include all new hotel room doors and hardware, plus new hallway carpeting.
We were fortunate on a few occasions to be on the receiving end of an upgrade which was very much appreciated. Once, I was recovering from knee surgery and enjoyed the spacious, well-appointed accommodations. It was so nice to be able to enjoy the condo since I couldn’t get out much due to stitches in my knee. During our last stay (January 28-30, 2012), we received a condo upgrade which really lifted my spirits, as I was headed to the hospital upon check-out for a hip surgical procedure. Timing is everything!
One thing I have read on TripAdvisor.com is that some folks have issues with having to take two elevators to the condo section of the resort. Even with stitches in my knee and on crutches, I had no issues with the longer hallway walk and utilizing two elevators. Believe me, if you're lucky enough to receive a condo upgrade, it's well worth the extra steps.
In closing, this review doesn't cover everything the Princess Royale Resort has to offer, so check out their website for the full details. (No, I am not an employee or agent of the hotel). I should mention that a Superfresh grocery store is conveniently located just across Coastal Highway from Princess Royale, along with Roses Department Store for those last minute travel items. Enjoy your stay at The Princess Royale Resort -- we have and will continue to do so for many more years to come! "Life's a Beach."
