“Luxury? No. But for OC, it has its perks.”
We have stayed at various hotels in OC, including Princess Bayside (right by Seacrets), Holiday Inn on 17th, Sea Watch Condos, etc, etc. We have young children and very much enjoyed the convenience of being on the Board Walk. The Holiday Inn gets 5 stars as it is a nicer, newer hotel (with an awesome pool area!) than Park Place but it is ridiculously expensive, $400+/night during the summer. So, we looked for an alternative and frankly, Park Place worked fine for our needs. We went in June 2011 - this review is a little late. We do not spend a lot of time just sitting in our hotel room. We were out and about on our 3 night weekend, shopping, going on rides, tandem biking, eating lots of junk. There is nothing luxurious about this hotel but you will find that luxury is difficult to come by in OC. So the four star ranking definitely takes that into consideration. The pool is very small but our kids didn't care. My hubby would go down to Conner's, grab us drinks and bring them up to the pool while our kids splashed around. Again, the most important thing about this hotel is its convenience. You really can't ask for much better being so close to all of the action. You could hear a little bit of what is going on outside (room overlooking the boardwalk) but it really wasn't a huge issue most likely because we were exhausted. Not sure I would want to to do more than a few days here with our larger family due to the small size of the rooms but it was good for what we needed for our short visit. Our room had two double beds and a pullout sofa so fits 6 people (and really not much else!). Room had a sink and microwave which is nice although we didn't really have a need for them. If price not a big deal for you and you like a little luxury, try the Holiday Inn on 17th (yes, further from action but still on boarwalk) but if you want some value, better convenience, and are willing to part with some luxury, Park Place gets you bang for your buck.
