“Great place to stay”

LakeStar Lodge is a great place to stay in deep creek. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable place for a great price. Highly recommended for those going to Wisp, but do not want to pay to stay at the resort. This place is just a short drive to the resort as well as surrounding restaurants and entertainment. This last time we stayed in the king suite on the lower level, which had a large, flat screen TV. Our room had a refrigerator and microwave - no coffee maker though, but there are good local places for a good cup and tasty breakfasts. In the past, we have stayed in one of the upstairs queen suites, which have a fireplace in the room with logs provided - i don't believe they have the flat screens in the queen rooms. All rooms have balconies with a view of the lake and the slopes of Wisp resort.

“Great Holiday Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Spent 3 days at Deep Creek over Christmas week and stayed in this friendly Lodge - very nice room called the Queen Deluxe on the upper level came with a real fireplace and private balcony. The views were really amazing from the room, facing the Wisp Ski Slopes (especially at night when lit up) and backing to the lake. Room was very cozy, very clean and with a comfortable bed. The skiing wasn't great so we spent much time out on the balcony with our favorite wine. Nearby we could walk to restaurants like the Pine Lodge Steakhouse and the Black Bear Tavern Sports Bar. We visited Swallow Falls and the Simon-Pearce Glass factory, both about 15 minutes away, from Lodge staff recommendations. We'll definitely be back, but when the skiing is better. This was a great fine that we found thrugh Google!

Room Tip: Great place to stay, highly recommend it.

“Very Good view from the room, nice area, motel was fine.”

Loved waking up to see the lake from the bed. The place was clean, quiet and staff was friendly. The rates were a bit high for the small room with a tiny bathroom. The lobby was closed during most of our stay. They should upgrade the beds but I've slept on worse. We had a nice flat screen TV but they are not in all rooms. We had a fantastic meal at The Pinelodge Steakhouse. It's within walking distance. The BlackBear Tavern was a good place for lunch and a beer. It seemed like a fun place for a night out. I liked their gift shop. The best think about the area was our visit to Swallow Falls State Park...This beautiful park offers easy hikes to beautiful waterfalls.

“stuck in a time warp”

Stayed this past Saturday night in a room with a fireplace. The "brick" was ultra tacky. The throw rugs covering the filthy carpet were gross. The bathroom was beyond tiny. It was sooo overpriced! I thought there was coffee in the morning but the door to the office was locked! On the plus side--the Deep Creek Lodge restaurant down the road was great! P.S. Guy at desk ---- no personality.

“Oh, What a View!”

What can I say about this place that hasn't already been said? It's a great place to stay if you are on a budget. I wanted to stay in the Premier room with the fireplace, but noooooo.... someone didn't want to go up and down the stairs! Still, it was nice to walk out on the porch and down to the dock to our boat.

The newly remodeled room was very clean (so what if it smelled like Clorox, at least you know it was sanitized.. LOL). There was a nice size mini-fridge (no freezer), microwave and a small table with seating for two. Be aware that there isn't a coffee pot in the room, but kitty-corner across the street is the rear entrance to a foodmart/gas station that filled our thermos for 84 cents each morning. As for the size of the bathroom: I didn't come here to live in it - I came here to fish, and it WAS bigger than a port-a-potty!! For some reason, our room wasn't serviced on the second day of our stay, but then again, I don't "service" my house everyday, and I do know how to make a bed, which I would do anyway when staying in a motel.

Also nearby is a FoodLand grocery store with a nice deli, salad bar and bakery. They have the best jelly donuts I have ever tasted!!!

We took side trips to Oakland, Grantsville and Swallow Falls. Tip: If you do the loop at Swallow Falls, when you come to the "T", take the right path to Swallow Falls, and not Muddy Creek Falls. Otherwise you will have quite a climb up the stairs, instead of down the stairs! When in Oakland, visit the antique store with the old fashioned lunch counter and order a REAL old fashioned ice cream soda. You won't be disappointed! Casselman Park in Grantsville is worth the visit just to see the beautiful stone bridge, but you can take a picture of it from the road if you wish.

We are going back in the spring to do some trout fishing in the nearby rivers and creeks, and will definitely be staying here... maybe in that premier room with the fireplace??? :-)

Room Tip: Tip: I sanitized the air conditioner in the room (#3)
