We stayed there for 7 nites. It was a great place, friendly staff and clean rooms. Towels had some hair on it although clean. other than that everything was great. Walking distance from the hotel are Hoyts Cinema, Deli, BP Gas station, Bob Evans restaurant, Wendys & Ruby Tuesday! Got it on a great deal at hotiwre for $49 + tax/nite!

“Their motto is that they skimp on amenities to keep the price down...”

We chose to stay at the ESA because it accepted pets and we thought we could save a bit of money on our week long stay by cooking at the hotel for a few of our meals (per their website, they offer a 'fully-stocked kitchen'). The kitchen, however, was stocked with only the BAREST of cooking essentials (e.g., total cutlery and cooking utensils amounted to about four pieces) and they do not provide dishsoap or a dish sponge. This, combined with the fact that there are no grocery stores nearby, made the whole idea of conveniently eating some meals at home, the basis for our stay, a ridiculous challenge.

The room was nicely vacuumed and wiped down, but appeared outdated and very worn with some of the wall areas surrounding the lightswitches being brown with dirt. The bed was uncomfortable and the two pillows they provided were terrible--one was very lumpy as if it had been washed a zillion times and the other was very, very flat. Finally, the person in the room next to us smoked and, if you did not run the fan in your bathroom and keep the bathroom door shut, the smoke permeated the bathroom and the bedroom.

All this being said, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was quiet (we asked that our room not face the USPS facility, thanks to another trip advisor's tip), and all appliances functioned appropriately. Accordingly, our stay was not intolerable, just not worth anywhere near the $99/night we paid.

We won't be visiting this chain of hotels in the future.

  • Liked — Convenient to downtown Baltimore
  • Disliked — The lack of comfort, cleanliness, and usefulness.

“trucks - Trucks - TRUCKS!!!”

One wing of this hotel faces a US Mail depot that is most active between the hours of 10PM and 6AM. I am not a light sleeper, but even with the A/C fan on to mask the noise, the entire night is filled with the whump-WHUMP of trucks coming in and out of the depot across the street.

The rooms are very large, but extremely worn and dated. The carpet and furniture did not look especially clean and was the type of place that you wanted to keep your socks on in.

Bottom line - I've stayed in worse, but if you must stay here, insist on rooms that do not face the road. Oh, and bring an extra pair of socks to wear around the room.

  • Liked — Free wireless internet. Fridge+Microwave
  • Disliked — Noise from adjacent property. Worn/dated room. Dirty floors.

“Not where I would want ANY extended time!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2006

Horrible one night stay. It doesn't take much to impress me and I am generally easy going, but this facility didn't deliver on literally anything.

- Air Conditioner/Heater didn't turn on
- No hangers in room with open closet, with no doors
- Bathroom construction starting to fall apart with large cracks, mold, and dust
- Coffeemaker available, but no cups ANYWHERE. So I made my coffee in the morning and then . . . no cups.
- smallest TV I have seen in a hotel in a long time (must have been about 13 inches)

At the 89.00 I paid through work you can certainly do better than the Extended Stay -- Wingate and Hilton Garden Inn are right next door.

“Ok for the Price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2006

We did priceline the day of and got this hotel for $55 and we found it was worth just that and not the $120 they normall charge. There is no 24 hour front desk, no high speed internet, no breakfast and no maid service unless you stay for more than 7 nights. They have a small kitchen which you can cook in but who wants to start cooking on a vacation?? I would have much rather preferred a free breakfast. We asked for 2 beds since we were traveliing with our 2 kids but we only got 1 double! Good thing we brought a playpen with us or else someone would have been on the floor. They didn't give any shampoo but you could go down to the front desk and get, assuming it's during normal business hours. All in all it was fine. We drove down to MD from NY for a wedding so all we needed was a place to sleep for a few hours and shower. Definitely worth the $55 but I wouldn't pay more than that.
