Frequent business traveler, have Gold status with Starwood and Diamond with Hilton. I stayed here one night as I had an early flight home out of BWI. First off, this property is fine for a one night stay, (especially someone traveling alone who just wants to sleep) and is convenient to BWI via rental car or the complimentary hotel shuttle.
That said, I would not recommend it for an extended stay or even for couples as the rooms are very small, and sparsly furnished. This is my first stay at any Aloft hotel, and I don't know what I expected, but this wasn't what I expected! I'm sure the designers of this chain think it's a trendy concept appealing to the younger traveler, (which is fine), but it doesn't appeal to this 49 year old, male business traveler. The room design is just too small and not functional for my taste. While there is a desk with a swivel chair (and pencil, not pen), there is nowhere to 'relax' in the room, as the bed takes up much of it. There is a 'sofa', which is really just a padded ledge to sit on, but it is against the wall, directly underneath the flat panel screen, so it's not practical for use if you're planning on watching TV. Instead you need to move the chair away from the desk, back enough to see the TV. THe king size bed I had was ok, however there were only 2 small pillows provided (unless you count the tube pillow which is not functional to sleep with) which was ok for me, but would not be for a couple, as I like two pillows to myself to sleep. Towels were also rationed, although I'm sure you could call the desk to get more.
The rest of the furnishings were on the cheap-looking and sparce side (I guess the designers thought trendy, functional) such as the 'closet' and nightstand, which were both of an open design, meaning no drawers. Add the 'Spin' magazines that were included, and you can see how the appeal must go to the younger generation, but not the business one I'm accustomed too. I didn't care for the bathroom design either; a sliding mirror closed off the toilet and shower areas, but as it was just for one night, and one person, so ok. (No tub).
There is a lively bar downstairs which I did not use. Overall, the room was clean and effecient. Fine for one night for a single traveler, but wouldn't want to stay here for a week, or as a couple.
