“Clean, Well Maintained, but needs some improvements.”

This is an "OK" property - not stellar in terms of the look and feel, however I rated it as Very Good because the rooms are in great shape, recently updated, and are well worth the price paid.

However, let's talk about the tarnished elevators in desperate need of elbow grease to bring the shine back to the brass.
The carpet in the halls and in elevator lobbies is in desperate need of replacement. Runs, loose threads, bare patches, and just too much wear and tear to be attractive.

With that being said - the hotel's location is prime. It is close to the Lakeforest Mall, I-270, and tons of other things that make this property a great location for a business stay, or a leisure stay on a budget.

I have traveled in the area for work for around 5 years now - and I did not know this property existed. It's a little tough to find without a GPS.

I had never stayed at a hotel that had Starbucks/Panera/Airport style chairs (with swing away desk and electrical outlets built into the chair) it made working in the room very convenient!

The Wi-Fi was fast, the parking is free, and breakfast is available for a small charge in the lobby (under $10.00 I think).

GREAT Mattress and linens - I slept very well!

Is it the BEST hotel in the area? No, but is it one of the most budget friendly and conveniently located? YES!

I would recommend this hotel to a friend or family member.

“Nice hotel for a reasonable price”

Stayed here for four nights while visiting our daughter in Rockville for Thanksgiving. The decor is a little tired here and could use a facelift, but the room, hotel, grounds, and common areas were clean, and for $55.00 per night it was far and away the most reasonable premium hotel in the area. Staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel was quiet, the bed was extremely comfy, and the shower was good--plenty of pressure and hot water. The hotel is located just about a block from a large shopping mall, something one of us enjoyed.

Breakfast was not included but a breakfast buffet was available for $10.00. My advice is to skip it. There is a Dunkin' Donuts within a half block or so with much better fare than the rubber scrambled eggs and chewy bacon. Other fast food places and restaurants are not far away, either.

“Hotel offers some upgrades but needs more”

The staff were friendly and fine. The hotel itself looked as though the bare minimum renovation was done to keep it functional. Dingy hallways, old but working elevators, and the room offered a lovely-plush bed but the carpet and other furniture items looked worn. There was a musty smell to the room as well. I would not return to this hotel nor would I recommend it. I stayed the duration of my booking because it was pre-paid through the travel service I had used.

“Definitely Middle of the Road”

Staying in the area, the Wyndham was chosen because of its close location to people we were visiting. I have to say that at this point in my life, I have stayed in a fair number of hotels, so am admittedly a little picky. Here is the good and bad, as far as I am concerned:

Hotel
Good - Nice, close outdoor parking, hotel is nicely maintained on the outside and it is easy to access anything you might need close by. The lobby is clean and nice.
Not so Good - I seldom saw lobby staff, and had to wait a fair amount of time for service. The lobby "shop" was a huge disappointment with a few bags of chips, and 2 soda choices. Why even have it? Vending machines are oddly scattered - and signs telling you what is available floor-by-floor aren't necessarily correct (floor 5!). Elevators are old and not well cleaned.

Room
Good - our bed was nice, king-sized. Shower was very good (a very important factor for where I enjoy staying). Climate control was adequate with the option to have the fan on all the time.
Not so Good - Definitely could smell what seemed like old cigarette smoke - very unfortunate for us. The walls are thin, as we could hear everything our neighbor was doing. The television is a nice flat-screen, though I have to say it is on the side of the room, virtually unviewable from in bed. I've never seen that kind of design before.

Bottom Line: With family here, we will likely visit the area again. We're not sure we're sold on the hotel as a future place to come. We won't rule it out, but weren't impressed enough to specifically seek this property out.

Room Tip: Maybe ask for a room that has never been smoked in, if possible

“Clean, Comfortable, Friendly Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

Just returned from a 3 night stay in Washington D.C. area, using Travelocity Secret Hotels as my booker, 2 nights I ended up at this better than average hotel.
What I liked about it:
1. No parking fees (D.C. hotels can charge $20 and more for overnight parking)
2. No internet fees (many D.C. hotels charge $12 or more for wireless internet)
3. Comfortable beds and adequate sized rooms
4. Friendly front desk reception and service
5. Close to shopping and restaurants and highway access
6. Quiet location and quiet halls and rooms
What I didn't like about it:
1. Gym was barely adequate and could use an update
2. Pool seemed to be shut down, there was a small inside pool that doesn't open till 4 pm
3. Hallways and paint in hallways looked a little dated and in need of a refresh
Overall, very serviceable, comfortable and relaxing, quiet and restful
I had a king sized bed, which was easy to get a good night's sleep
I've stayed here before a few years ago and it was nice then, not great but quite adequate, clean and comfortable and affordable.
Do use Travelocity Secret Hotels for Gaithersburg, I think it is listed as a 3 star there, and it is a good deal at that price, I don't think I'd want to pay over $100 for the hotel which is probably what their own website would charge for it.

Room Tip: Book it with Travelocity Secret Hotels to save money!!
