“Good jumping off point - highway noise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

The hotel was very clean and the staff professional. The breakfast area was small in proportion to the number of rooms but staff was prepared. Our room overlooked the highway and the noise was problematic. The was offset by being able to walk to the Rio center with lots of restaurants and shopping as well as a great running path. The Shady Grove metro was a very quick drive and made for an easy way to get downtown and see the sights in DC.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the opposite side of the highway.

“Good location, clean but very noisy rooms.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

The location of this SpringHill Suites is just off 270. It is close to Washingtonian Square, which has many shops and good restaurants; the Rio location is also there. We had an odd-number room on the 5th floor, and I thought when I entered that we had a problem with an open window, the traffic noise was so loud. The window was closed. and yes, it is that loud. The windows offer almost no sound barrier, even when the black-out curtains are closed. The air unit in the room is controlled by a thermostat, but is right next to the bed and also very loud. I had to use ear plugs to get a good night's sleep. If you book here, request a room on the other side (even-number rooms). I had a king-suite. Room had a bed, sofa, flat-screen lcd tv, mini-fridge, desk, microwave, and dressing area. The bed was comfortable and the linens clean, though they were not very soft. The bathroom was fine, though the shower was dark. Breakfast was good, even though the hotel was full during our stay, the food and drinks were kept well-stocked and the tables were cleaned quickly. Wi-Fi was slow, but the hotel was full, so that may have caused the problem. The pool area and whirlpool were clean, and the fitness room was fine. I would only stay here again if I could be assured a quieter room.

Room Tip: Request a room on the "quiet" (even-numbered) side!

“Very slow internet and limited breakfast seating”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We've stayed in many hotels and this probably provides the slowest internet all.

The first room we got was on the sixth floor and it does not have any wireless internet signal at all (maybe becaust it was snowing?) And we found out the fridge was room temperature.

So we switched to a room on the fourth floor. We can get the wireless signal but it was very slow. Can not even watch youtube not to say netflix. This time the fridge was working but only around 40-50 F and no way to adjust the setting. Also I never received the crib/cot I requested while booking the hotel. I am not sure if that was because I switched rooms.

Breakfast area was very crowded with limited seating. We have sit near a chair/couch to eat. Overall, not the most impressive among all marriott chains.

“Comfortable and well-run hotel for business”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

I've stayed at this hotel about 20 times during the last couple of years - and I have not been disappointed on any of my trips. The staff is always welcoming, available and friendly. The rooms are very clean, and I've never had any sort of issue with any of the room attributes. The hotel serves a breakfast every morning (coffee, juice, waffles, eggs. ham, yogurt, muffins, fruit, etc) that is simple but very nicely presented.

The hotel is in a very convenient spot located close to the 270 freeway - but also close to the Washingtonian Center. There's a very nice lake/pond with running trails located about 1/4 mile from this hotel, and there are many restaurants and shopping within walking distance.

Overall, it's a solid place to stay in a location where you can get outside after work for a walk/jog or bite to eat.

“It's a good place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

I've stayed at this hotel at least 20 times over the last four years. It's convenient to the Metro and the highway. In addition, it's within walking distance of a lake view outside mall with several restaurants, small shops, and target. All the rooms are small suites with a refrigerator, mcirowave, and sink.

The rooms with double beds have two TVs - (1) for the bedroom and (2) for the living area, which also has a couch and desk.

The hotel offers a hot breakfast with a good selection of food.
The only bad thing about the hotel is it doesn't have a shuttle.

Also, if you're there on business, bring your own laptop and printer. Most times, the single computer in the "business center" is tied up by a tourist.
