My husband and I recently stayed at the Brampton Inn as part of our honeymoon. We arrived quite late on our first night, but Rita got us checked in quickly, and gave us a list of restaurants that would still be open, as well as a map of the area. We had a wonderful meal at The Blue Heron as per her recommendation.
We booked the Mulberry Cottage for two nights, a recently-built facility which offered the perfect blend of old world charm and modern convenience by combining rich brocades and drapes with clean warm wood finishes. This cottage included a very private fenced-in yard with a hammock and a porch swing, and inside it had such amenities as a kitchenette with complimentary beverages, a real working fireplace, a large bed with the softest sheets I have ever slept on, a Whirlpool jacuzzi tub, a shower with multiple controllable side jets, a heated towel bar, plush robes, and a TV you can watch from either the bed or the bath. Attached to the cottage was a screened porch with a Japanese soaking tub, as well as an outdoor shower for use during the summer months. The layout of the cottage was practical and efficient; with plenty of room for comfort, but not an inch of wasted space. Additionally, the inn seamlessly incorporates its historical facilities with its modern additions, so we had our own designated parking spot in what had once been the carriage barn for the property.
When I made my reservation, I was given the option to add on romantic touches such as a bouquet of roses for the room. I decided to surprise my husband by ordering a dozen orange roses, his favourite. When we arrived at the cottage, there was the most beautiful arrangement of fire-orange roses we had ever seen resting on the table. It was definitely worth splurging on, and it made the room that much more special.
In the morning we had a lovely breakfast up at the main house which included glazed cranberry muffins that were to die for, pineapple and kiwi in a mint syrup, fluffy cheese and onion omelettes, and herbal tea. Each morning they give you three entree options, so there is bound to be something to please everyone. Also, they were very accommodating to my dietary restrictions. Some other examples of what you might expect to be served are waffles, eggs prepared any way, Greek omelettes, raspberry cream cheese filled pancakes, lemon french toast, fresh grapefruit, cherry scones, and spiced apple tarts. Their baked goods are truly heavenly.
We actually spent a good portion of our time up at the main house. They have a cozy den that is open 24hrs/day with complimentary fresh home-baked cookies, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, popcorn, soda, and libations. Also, they have a library where you can borrow movies, books, or board games at any time. Rita and Danielle both came and sat with us and talked about the wedding and how our honeymoon had gone so far, making us feel welcome and at home.
Brampton is in a great location for anyone visiting the area. During our stay we visited the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michael's, stopped for fresh Kilby's milk at Higgie's market, toured historic Chestertown where we ate at Play it Again Sam coffeehouse and browsed through used book stores, then continued up north to visit Winterthur and the Delaware Art Museum.
Brampton also has a large property that includes acres of land to walk in and explore. At night there is almost no light pollution, so it is perfect for star-gazing.
Between the amazing cottage, the amazing food, and the amazing service from our hosts we decided to extend our stay and add on an extra day to our trip. We truly cannot recommend a better B&B than this!
Room Tip: The cottages are private, quiet, and modern - the perfect spot for a romantic getaway.
