After checking in in the afternoon, really late at night we got back in the room and found some small cockroaches in the bathroom. They were hiding behind the toilet/wallpaper and a small hole in the floor. One made his way to the tub. The front desk is empty at night, so we slept and waited till the next morning and asked to be moved to another room for the remainder of our stay. We couldn't be moved because the hotel was fully booked. The nice lady told me she was shocked to hear about this and said it was the first time they had heard about them all summer. She did offer to send housekeeping up (I'm no pro, but this needs an exterminator, not a sweep and mop).
She helped us find a room in a nearby hotel for the next night and comped our previous night, as well as giving out free breakfast.
I don't know if they fixed the holes, had pest control come over and deemed the room entirely ok again, but they did rent it out the next day as I noticed when I was back there visiting a friend in another room. Maybe that is not irresponsible (again, I'm no pro) but it left a bad taste with me.
In the end, even without insects I wouldn't recommend this hotel. It looks boutique from the outside, but just plain "old" on the inside. Which is too bad, because the location is A+. If you do book it, get the suite on the 3rd floor, I saw it and its great.
