“Great Experience”

We stayed here for three nights, and had no trouble at all. Security is on premises 24 hours a day, and the hotel was very quiet. The room was very basic, but very clean, and housekeeping came in every day. The first room we were given had a broken air conditioner, but we were moved to a new room in less than 10 minutes with no problem...at almost 10:00 at night. The neighborhood felt safe to me, I didnt ever really see anyone walking around or just hanging out. The ladies that were working at the front desk were very friendly and helpful also. Cheap hotel, good location...there are PLENTY of restaurants nearby (McDonalds, Wendys, Checkers, A&W, Long John Silvers, And A sub restaurant with a carvel Ice Cream place) all within a 5-10 minute walk of the hotel. There are also 2 metro stations within a few miles, and if you go to the Capitol heights station you can park for free all day on the weekends, and ride the metrorail all day for $6.50 a person....sure beats driving around DC... I would stay in this hotel again

  • Liked — The price, and the fact that the room not only looked clean, it also FELT clean
  • Disliked — Having to take the stairs to the 3rd floor

“Location not safe”

Just came back from this hotel yesterday. The hotel itself is okay. Room looked as if recently painted and was very clean. Remember, you get what you pay for so the rooms are as basic as they come.

Only bad thing is the hotel is located in a very bad neighborhood. I did not feel safe during the day or the night. Also the security guard they have was awesome, however our room was all the way towards the back of the building near bushes and we never saw him patrolling towards the back of the property in his car. I really hate to say it but my husband and I feared for our lives in that neighborhood. It is worth it to spend an extra $40 to $50 a night and get a hotel in a safe area where you can sleep with peace of mind. It's a shame because the slimmer front desk lady was very nice, but we will never, ever stay there again.

“Should have heeded reviews!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2006

Stayed at Motel 6 in spite of reviews because of the price. I have never stayed at a hotel with as many security measures with so little reason. Keycard expired each day and had to be reactivated in spite of pre-paying for three days. Room was a smoking room but had a horrible odor that was not from smoking. No iron, ironing board, in-room coffee, hairdryer, or mini refrigerator, and couldn't decide if I had air conditioning or just a fan. Thanks to the reviews I read, I had taken my own hairdryer. Allegedly, there was coffee in the office, but it was gone when I got there. Ran out of toilet paper one night as the roll was almost gone when I arrived on the first night and it was not replenished the next day. Windows could not be opened. Security guard chased us down one night as we entered (in spite of our having had a lengthy conversation with him the previous day when registering) because we had forgotten to put parking permit in a visable spot. Office persons were cordial, which was the only good thing about this place.

“Bare Essentials: Clean, Cheap but Lacking in Amenities, NO AC!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 April 2006

The best thing about this hotel was the low price, only 200$ for three nights. The area itself was safe and clean and there is 24/7 security who take their job very seriously. There are plenty of fast food places and stores. The rooms are small but clean. No artwork, just white everyhing. BUT, there are no bathtubs, shower only. After a long day of walking the DC mall, a tub would have been great. There is NO air conditioning..not even in the tiny security windowed lobby. We went and bought a fan and kept our door cracked to get air in there. The windows do not open either. Despite the website description. There is a laundry facility but I did not use it. There is NO coffee, only ice. Cheap tickets said the hotel offered continental breakfast but that was not the case. The maid did not make beds, change towels...she only emptied the trash. The beds are only twin size and I ended up sleeping with my daughter instead of my husband bc of their small size. The key got reset everyday, so our long days ended with a trip to the lobby to get the key to work. The staff was not too pleasant either. We got there after a three hour drive and they had said on the phone that we could check in any time after 6 am. This turned out to be false and there were no rooms ready at 2 pm when we arrived. We were told to come back before 6pm. We had to go to Dc though so it was a real nuicance. And the staff were not freindly about it either, they didn't care that it was a problem for us. We did have a wonderful time in DC though and the metro system is impressive. I would not stay in a Motel 6 again after this hotel. And I am being as fair as I can. I recommend spending the extra money for a room with AC and a tub. Good luck!

“Noisy at night.”

The staff were helpful and did their best to make our stay comfortable.
Room price was very reasonable. The motel is older but clean. The bed was small for a queen and squeaky when we moved around.
However there was lots of noise from traffic nearby and rowdy guests
late at night so we had trouble sleeping some nights. The motel had on site
24-7 security guards with parking restricted to motel guests only for which I was thankful.
