Stage Neck Inn is very nice. A solid 4-41/2 stars which, with some tweeking, could be a five star resort. The location is beautiful, the staff friendly and the grounds are well maintained. The breakfast buffet served each morning is very good. (I'm not sure I understand some of the complaints about the food.) It was fresh, constantly replenished, with a nice choice of options for all. Scott, who is part of the service staff for beakfast is incredibly pleasant, professional and willing to do whatever it takes to enhance your experience. I also don't understand some of the complaints about service charge for breakfast. While it's true some people don't try as hard if the tip is already a done deal, we didn't experience that here. Everyone was very professional and I would have left the appropriate tip anyway. And the staff who serviced our rooms were also very good so I had no issues with that either. The grounds are beautiful, the setting what you might imagine it to be if you choose to vist Maine and the rooms, while not over the top, are clean and good sized. They also do a lot of little things very well, small appointments here and there that you notice only when you see or experience them and say, oh, that's a nice touch.. That's the sign of an establishment that understands the business and recognizes what brings people back.
We were here in November so I can't speak for what it might be like during the summer but there was a wedding the weekend we stayed and it caused no disruption even though the hotel was pretty full. I've also heard the room rates are double in the summer which seems kind of steep even for a water property, but that's for then. This is now.
Can this be a five star resort? Yes and no. The truth is, I'm not sure I want it to be and I think others might feel the same way. It can certainly do some things that might bring it to that level but I also think to do those things would take away from what SNI is and why it appeals to people.
The spa is small..............(two little rooms) so it doesn't give you the true sense of a spa experience at a large resort. The indoor pool is equally small and would seem filled with 6-8 people. And yes, it is annoying to have the bathroom door always closing on you, something a 2.00 doorstop would solve.
But come on.......why are you coming to Maine in the first place? If it's to visit an over the top five star resort that has all the ammenities you might imagine, then I respectively suggest you go elsewhwere. What you have here is a pool overlooking the ocean, a beach to walk on, ocean views, tennis courts, immaculate rooms and common areas, a great breakfast, terrific surrounding towns, people who care about your stay, with the best and freshest seafood. And the best part is....you'll feel like you're home.
If you want more than that.......well.....you know what I think.

We appreciate your recent stay with us and thank you for your feedback. I thank you for your comments about the staff. Many of our guests do appreciate the automatic service fees, while others do not. But, all in all, it is relatively well received, and quite common practice in many resorts.
We try very hard to make sure that the events we hold do not disrupt the ongoings of the rest of the inn. We love having all the wonderful weddings, corporate events, etc., and want all involved, both the events and our guests to enjoy all the amenities the inn has to offer. Thank you for your input on this.
It is our hope that you will re-visit the inn in the near future.
Thank you!
