“Charm and class”

This was my second visit to Stage Neck Inn. My first was in August and this one the Monday after Thanksgiving. I have to say both have their upsides. In August you have the sunshine and outside pool, beach, or lounge chairs. But in November, it takes on a warm family feel, and seems cozy and tucked away.

The rooms are great, I slept on a fold out bed the first stay and it is no wonder children dread bedtime! I think I still have the springs imprinted in my back. My only complaint is as to why they haven't updated to the newer air beds (with legs) from Frontgate. That would be very nice, but the room overlooked the river with fishing boats traveling out with morning coffee and returning in the late afternoon, so it was okay.

There is a beautiful trail to walk or run that starts at Stage Neck and follows the river in land. You can get a map or directions from the hotel lobby. My sister and I enjoyed a few morning jogs in August.

In November (or all winter for that matter), you can score a deal with a room that includes dinner and breakfast, both are wonderful and indulging. My sister and I also scheduled massages upon our arrival and were rejuvenated from the 5 hour drive to get there. The morning sunrise was so beautiful.

I love this place. There is something so "traditional" about it. I overheard several older people tell the waitress, "We always sit at that table..." and they were welcomed back, as if they were truly family. It is warm, plush, and quiet, with fantastic food and spa treatments. What more can one ask? I would highly recommend.

“Great for the Holidays. Fantastic execution with superb location.”

Have stayed a few times at Stage Neck and the holidays always brings out the best in the place.

Location can't be beat. Private yet very close to Rte 1, outlets, restaurants, etc. Beautifully decorated for the holidays. And they have little touches that makes the stay even better (hot cider, roaring fireplace, turndown service, DVD library for viewing)

Rooms always clean, good shape. Very quiet as well. Friendly service.

Breakfast Buffet is a good. Dinner is a bit on the pricey side but good quality.

“great Inn,disappointing meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

This is a beautiful Inn , more like a small resort. We had a lovely room on the lower level that had sliding doors to a sitting area overlooking the water. This is truly a scenic part of Maine. The staff are all very pleasant . We had nice weather during our stay and were able to walk a bit. It is nice to have a small refrigerator in the room. A family member had a corner room which has more windows and a sitting area with table and chairs, request this any time you can.My meal at the bar Friday was good, but what a disappointment on Saturday night in the dining room. I do not expect when living in New England to be served shrimp the size of a pea. What I was served was not as described. Definitely will stay again.

Room Tip: lower level corner rooms

Thank you for staying with us recently and thank you for some lovely comments about the inn. I do think the rooms that you and your family were in are great. First floor harborview rooms with the sliders out to the grassy area overlooking the entrance to the harbor are the best!

We are, however, disappointed to hear of your displeasure in our dining room on your last night with us. In reference to the small size shrimp, those are the ever-popular baby Maine shrimp. If it was a dish that only had those, I apologize, for we typically will combine both the larger Gulf shrimp with the smaller Maine shrimp. My only hope is that you mentioned this to the dining room host or waitresss that night, for we certainly would have addressed the issue.

I am happy to know that you will return to the inn in the future.

Thank you, again.

“Great Fall Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

Stage Neck Inn is very nice. A solid 4-41/2 stars which, with some tweeking, could be a five star resort. The location is beautiful, the staff friendly and the grounds are well maintained. The breakfast buffet served each morning is very good. (I'm not sure I understand some of the complaints about the food.) It was fresh, constantly replenished, with a nice choice of options for all. Scott, who is part of the service staff for beakfast is incredibly pleasant, professional and willing to do whatever it takes to enhance your experience. I also don't understand some of the complaints about service charge for breakfast. While it's true some people don't try as hard if the tip is already a done deal, we didn't experience that here. Everyone was very professional and I would have left the appropriate tip anyway. And the staff who serviced our rooms were also very good so I had no issues with that either. The grounds are beautiful, the setting what you might imagine it to be if you choose to vist Maine and the rooms, while not over the top, are clean and good sized. They also do a lot of little things very well, small appointments here and there that you notice only when you see or experience them and say, oh, that's a nice touch.. That's the sign of an establishment that understands the business and recognizes what brings people back.
We were here in November so I can't speak for what it might be like during the summer but there was a wedding the weekend we stayed and it caused no disruption even though the hotel was pretty full. I've also heard the room rates are double in the summer which seems kind of steep even for a water property, but that's for then. This is now.
Can this be a five star resort? Yes and no. The truth is, I'm not sure I want it to be and I think others might feel the same way. It can certainly do some things that might bring it to that level but I also think to do those things would take away from what SNI is and why it appeals to people.
The spa is small..............(two little rooms) so it doesn't give you the true sense of a spa experience at a large resort. The indoor pool is equally small and would seem filled with 6-8 people. And yes, it is annoying to have the bathroom door always closing on you, something a 2.00 doorstop would solve.
But come on.......why are you coming to Maine in the first place? If it's to visit an over the top five star resort that has all the ammenities you might imagine, then I respectively suggest you go elsewhwere. What you have here is a pool overlooking the ocean, a beach to walk on, ocean views, tennis courts, immaculate rooms and common areas, a great breakfast, terrific surrounding towns, people who care about your stay, with the best and freshest seafood. And the best part is....you'll feel like you're home.
If you want more than that.......well.....you know what I think.

We appreciate your recent stay with us and thank you for your feedback. I thank you for your comments about the staff. Many of our guests do appreciate the automatic service fees, while others do not. But, all in all, it is relatively well received, and quite common practice in many resorts.

We try very hard to make sure that the events we hold do not disrupt the ongoings of the rest of the inn. We love having all the wonderful weddings, corporate events, etc., and want all involved, both the events and our guests to enjoy all the amenities the inn has to offer. Thank you for your input on this.

It is our hope that you will re-visit the inn in the near future.

Thank you!
