“Property Needs Updating and Owners need to stop relying on View”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2010

The good news is that the view was nice and the sound of the waves at night was very soothing. However, the room didnt have a clock, hair dryer, or a shower that worked without spraying all over the bathroom. The room was terribly outdated. I expressed my disappointment regarding the price vs. what you get and the owner basically said too bad you pay for the view....Well, I will never return to that view again. Not worth the price!!

“don't trust them”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

at the phone it was 75$ in fact they charged 95$ arguing some taxes and fees...that do not exist of course. A chance for the owner that the sea is just across the street.

“Very satisfied with accommodations!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2010

My husband and I have been to York before, and we had seen the outside of Grand View. It looked very nice, and the view of Nubble lighthouse and the ocean was phenomenal, so I booked a room. I didn't think to read the reviews until after booking. When I did, I was appalled reading one on another website. We even considered just going somewhere else and losing our money. We decided to go there and then leave if it was dirty. We were not disappointed with our room. The bathroom was tiled and very clean. The shower was wonderful - nice hot water, great water pressure and there seemed to be a water softener. We had a small refrigerator, a microwave and a coffee maker. Everything was in working order! We loved having a balcony, but as someone else said in their review, a screen door would be nice so we could listen to the waves from the room. We got to watch a spectacular sunrise and listen to the crashing waves while drinking our coffee on the balcony! We would not hesitate to go back there!

“Great view, but rooms need work”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2010

My husband and I stayed here for an extended weekend getaway. We are frequent travelers to Maine but this is the first time we have ever been to the York area and it was absolutely beautiful. In regards to the Grand View Inn, the view is amazing and I think they feel they can charge the amount they do just because of that. However, they really need to do some work on the rooms if they want to compete with some of the other properties that have equally beautiful views. I'm not one of those people that's looking for wi-fi or a gazillion different cable stations or a gym on-site, but there are some basic things that I feel should be a priority in a hotel/motel/inn. Our room was definitely clean, I have no complaints there. There just need to be some things done to freshen them up so that they don't look so shabby. A few extra little amenities, like a box of tissues in each room and an electrical outlet in the bathroom for a hairdryer would also be nice touches. I love that every room has it's own balcony, but to really take advantage of the Maine coast you need to be able to experience the ocean breezes while you sleep. This is where a sliding screen door would be fabulous. Another thing that was kind of annoying was that there were no light switches right inside of the door. You had to go over to the bed or next to the desk to turn a light on in the room. If you are coming into your room for the first time in the dark this can be slightly challenging. The staff was perfectly nice, though slightly disorganized with bookkeeping. The website states that a one night deposit is required at the time of booking but we were charged two. We didn't make a big deal out of it, we just figured that was one less night we had to pay for when we checked in. However, when we checked in we were charged for one night more than what we had booked. Since we didn't receive an email or mail confirmation we had no idea that we were put down for another night. We were refunded the money without a problem, but the whole thing could have been avoided if they were a little more organized and had some sort of confirmation system where you could have documentation of your reservation. The indoor heated pool is very nice and very clean. We took advantage of that a couple of nights and really enjoyed it. We did notice that the staff tends to smoke in the lobby. Of course no one really spends a ton of time in the lobby but even if you just went in for a few moments to ask a question you came out smelling like smoke. Sorry smokers, I know you feel like we're out to get you, but it is very offensive to a lot of people and some of us are actually allergic. In this day and age it's just good business sense to keep the smoking outside. All in all we had a pleasant stay, but to be honest I will probably check out some of the other oceanfront properties the next time we plan on visiting York.

“Misleading and costly”

Called to inquire and was given a description that was to say the least exagerated. Rooms are old, out dated and stuffy. AC did not work - cool breeze at night provided more cool air than ac. Amenities are described with creative liberty - refrigerator is tiny, coffee maker didn't work. "Family Unit" consisted of 2 queen beds, one 40 in round table with 2 chairs. I found stains and hair on the sheets - fortunately we had our own. Not a good value and extremely uncomfortable. Owner/operator was not at all concerned with the feeling that we were taken advantage of - actually said a room is a room - you pay for the view - I suggest you pay for the view elsewhere; don't waste your money here
