My husband and I stayed here for an extended weekend getaway. We are frequent travelers to Maine but this is the first time we have ever been to the York area and it was absolutely beautiful. In regards to the Grand View Inn, the view is amazing and I think they feel they can charge the amount they do just because of that. However, they really need to do some work on the rooms if they want to compete with some of the other properties that have equally beautiful views. I'm not one of those people that's looking for wi-fi or a gazillion different cable stations or a gym on-site, but there are some basic things that I feel should be a priority in a hotel/motel/inn. Our room was definitely clean, I have no complaints there. There just need to be some things done to freshen them up so that they don't look so shabby. A few extra little amenities, like a box of tissues in each room and an electrical outlet in the bathroom for a hairdryer would also be nice touches. I love that every room has it's own balcony, but to really take advantage of the Maine coast you need to be able to experience the ocean breezes while you sleep. This is where a sliding screen door would be fabulous. Another thing that was kind of annoying was that there were no light switches right inside of the door. You had to go over to the bed or next to the desk to turn a light on in the room. If you are coming into your room for the first time in the dark this can be slightly challenging. The staff was perfectly nice, though slightly disorganized with bookkeeping. The website states that a one night deposit is required at the time of booking but we were charged two. We didn't make a big deal out of it, we just figured that was one less night we had to pay for when we checked in. However, when we checked in we were charged for one night more than what we had booked. Since we didn't receive an email or mail confirmation we had no idea that we were put down for another night. We were refunded the money without a problem, but the whole thing could have been avoided if they were a little more organized and had some sort of confirmation system where you could have documentation of your reservation. The indoor heated pool is very nice and very clean. We took advantage of that a couple of nights and really enjoyed it. We did notice that the staff tends to smoke in the lobby. Of course no one really spends a ton of time in the lobby but even if you just went in for a few moments to ask a question you came out smelling like smoke. Sorry smokers, I know you feel like we're out to get you, but it is very offensive to a lot of people and some of us are actually allergic. In this day and age it's just good business sense to keep the smoking outside. All in all we had a pleasant stay, but to be honest I will probably check out some of the other oceanfront properties the next time we plan on visiting York.
