A beautiful retreat to recharge the spirit. Wonderful staff, great ammenities. Can't wait to return.

We were heading up to Quebec and broke up the trip by staying in Maine. There are other similar B&B's close by at half the price. The place was very clean and the rooms were nice. If that is all you want, you will be very happy.
The problem for us was that there is no phone service here, no phone in the room, and they had gone home by the time that we got in (11 PM). We needed to call home and had our computer to do so, but, here in the middle of nowhere, they find it necessary to password protect their wireless and they didn't leave the password in the room. Instructions were left to go to another business to find the people running the place, but there were no directions as to where it was and we didn't feel particularly ingratiated to run down the street to get something we were promised would be waiting for us (the password).
The breakfast consisted of cold average muffins and a banana. The person running the place ignored us for a while, came out for about 20 seconds, and retreated into the office.
Nice room, run by people who need to pay better attention to guest needs. You can't run a B&B like an automated laundromat. No TV or phones.

The Forks, Maine is rural - no cell service, no wireless Internet - and the available accomodations limited. We stayed in the Snow Carriage House, which was 2 bedrooms, one bath, a kitchen and sitting area, built over a garage for a long weekend. The space was clean and had a well equipped kitchen, but the shower left much to be desired. It took at least 15 minutes of running water to get luke warm and the pressure could kindly be described weak. The breakfasts were good - one order of pancakes was more than enough to feed an adult and a 10 year old. Aside from the basic nature of the accomodations, the Inn is next door to a bar, which played loud live music on the weekend nights, which made it difficult to get the kids to sleep at night, and it had people camping out all over the property, making parking a challenge at times.

I have lived in Maine my whole life and have kayaked the Kennebec up until I was eighteen years old. On a trip back to Maine I went up to stay at the Forks with some friends. Paddles and Saddles and the Inn at which we stayed were AWESOME. The small more friendly services are by far the better way to go.
