“The other reviews are not that far off”

After reading the reviews I was wary of what we'd come to at the end of the day. Being a holiday weekend, we felt lucky to find anything for a decent price.

Our room wasn't necessarily so bad. We just needed a place to sleep. The carpet was fairly new, our sheets weren't stained or torn or anything like others have reported (no bugs, either). The towels were pretty rough, like sandpaper. The bathroom was clean, although the ledge on the sink below the mirror looked as though it hadn't been cleaned or wiped in some time (dust, hair). The seat of the chair by the bed did have some scary stains on it. I used it to rest my suitcase on (the arms). We stayed in the other building (the one that's not attached to the office) and the one thing that immediately troubled me was the fact that the heat was on in the hallway, which affected the entire building. It was HOT inside that building. The heat, along with the heavy smell of cleaning products or deodorizers was enough to make me not feel well. Thankfully once we got to our room, we found that the windows opened, so we left our window opened all night. I still had a major itch in my nose and a headache for a lot of the next day.

The motel clearly needs some updating and some deep cleaning. It looks like they might be attempting to update it little by little, but a little bit of thorough vacuuming and scrubbing would go a long way until then.

“Dark, dank and depressing”

Stayed for 1 night on a $60 bid from priceline, so I couldn't turn it down. I travelled alone and do not smoke. I was given a king smoking room, maybe because I checked in late. The room smelled of smoke, so I slid the window open.

The room was poorly lit. The first thing I noticed was a bug on the sheets, in the shape of a round popcorn kernel. I put a pillow over its head and hoped it would go away. On the other side of the bed, the sheets had cigarette holes. The armchair had similar cigarette holes. The carpet was gross and I never took off my shoes.

I put paper on the chair so I could sit at the desk. I couldn't get on the Internet so I phoned the office (the phone was sticky) and the man helped me, with his broken English. I got on, then I checked my mail, but I couldn't send an email.

I used my own sheets that I brought and went to sleep. In the middle of the night I got on the computer and sent the email. In the morning I left quickly. I noticed the parking lot, (which is unpaved), was filled with cars. They had a lot of customers.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I did not feel like a guest there. I felt very uncomfortable to say the least. It is obvious they don't care about their guests, since they are not putting any money into the property.

“Pretty gross--you get what you pay for”

My husband and I stayed at this hotel on our way up to Northern Maine. We really just needed a place to sleep for a few hours, and almost every hotel in the area was booked, so this is where we ended up. As soon as we walked into our room, the stench of mold hit us in the face. We then noticed that the smell was most likely coming from a broken air conditioner that was leaking all over the carpet (which was soaking wet before we arrived). Aside from the smell, the water, and the nastiness, the television did not work at all, and the bathroom was disgusting. I felt like I was back in a college dorm, having to wear my flip flops in the shower it was so nasty. If you can avoid this hotel, I would strongly recommend doing so.

“Good for a single "overnighter"”

I was on a college trip provided through my high school with three other people. At the end of our first day my school councilor found the Budget Host was an affordable place to stay in the Waterville area. If not the cheapest. Once we got the keys (cards) to our rooms we made our way from the main office to the building the rooms are located. We also had 3 rooms, the one my councilor had was decent and from what I saw it was fine. Nor did I hear any dissatisfied reports from her the next morning. Then, the other two on the trip shared a room. I went in to visit them that evening and there were many noticeable patches on the wall near one of the beds that seemed to me someone had been punching. I also noticed a couple on the ceiling that had been heavily covered over with acoustic ceiling spray (Known as cottage cheese). That’s all I really noticed but I was told the next day by one of the students in the room that she had a hole in her blanket. Then as for my room it seemed fine at first, and probably the bathroom was the best part of the room. Though I later discovered multiple stains on every sheet and a long black hair within the outside of a pillow case. Which made me think they haven’t been changed since their last use. Other than that the stay was surprisingly ok for me. I would only suggest going there alone so you don’t feel embarrassed by anything. It’s fine for a quick over night stay, and that’s all I would insist on.

  • Liked — It was quiet for the most part, and the bathroom I had was clean.
  • Disliked — Bedding
