After a reunion, my wife and I traveled north for a quick tour of Acadia National Park. We opted to stay at the Isleview Cottages and Motel because of its location, value and ratings. It was cold and rainy that night, about 55 degrees, as we checked in. Our room was in the motel part of the facility. As we opened the door, we were struck with how cold it was in the room. We looked for a thermostat or heater and all we found was one of those portable oil-filled radiators that you plug in to heat a small room or office. We immediately turned in on but it took all night to heat the room. That evening, we heard two cars pull up next to our room, open the doors to their rooms, and immediately drive off...presumably to find a warmer hotel. We can only wonder how they heat the rooms when it gets really cold in Maine. [Our room also had another freestanding machine that I assume is some kind of a cooler or air conditioner.]
Our room looks like it had been refurbished in the last few years. The furniture was fairly new and the room was clean. The bathroom was small and also without heat. It consisted of a small sink, toilet, Sear metal shower stall, and a small shelf over a mini-refrigerator. There was no counterspace near the sink which we found to be an inconvenient. Also you had to step around the toilet in order to get in and out of the shower.
The motel has no restaurant onsite so we drove to a nearby "lobster pound" for a delicous meal. The motel advertises a complimentary breakfast (8-10 AM) but we only saw a single table in the lobby on which to present the breakfast and no place to sit down. Needless to say, we drove to Bar Harbor for breakfast.
In summary, the Isleview Cottages & Motel is probably a decent place to stay during the summer. It was clean and comfortable and priced right. Beware, however, when it gets cold there.
