“White Wolf Inn is where Memories Begin. Stay, Play, Eat & Rlax. They've got it all!”

We went to Maine with another couple to go skiing and Snow mobiling for a week. So it was key to get as close to Sugar Loaf Mt as possible without staying on the mountain paying high resort prices. The White Wolf Inn is only about 10 min or less from SugarLoaf and provides a very quaint, personable lodging experience. Our room was very suitable with cable TV, internet and comfortable beds. The owner, Sandi Isgro, was so accomodating and friendly that she made us feel like family. Her restaurant and bar was so much fun to hang out in while we sheltered from the cold outside. The bar had a jukebox we danced to at night and provided Arcade games like packman and Mario Bros. The food was exceptional. You usually don't see that much diversity and care in a Menu at an inexpensive Inn. For a wk, we ate ourselves through the whole menu because it was that good. Highlights you have to order during your stay: The Wolf-Burger (not good for the calorie counters but something everyone should try... It will change the way you think of hamburgers... It's that Amazing!) and the Duck Tenders!! The owner, Sandi, was so sweet to give us complimentary treats during our stay and even helped organize our Snowmobiling day trip since she is also the President of the Snowmobiling Club. She escorted us across the street from her Inn to the sled rental place and got us all set up so everything ran smoothly. What else can I say but stay at the White Wolf Inn and you won't ever regret it. And your wallet will thank you too!

“This is rugged, basic motel living”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2010

This is a two story commercial wooden building that hugs Main St. The rooms are on the second floor via a set of wooden stairs. Picture yourself going back in time to the 30s and 40s and you get the sense of what to expect. the 3 star rating is relative to the fact that this inn is basically good for its location.

The rates are a reasonable value for its location, but charging $10-20 less would be more realistic considering the old and tired look of the rooms. The website pictures are not the rooms we stayed in. What we experienced were clean, but tired rooms with barely any ammenities. The furniture were grandparent / tag sale hand me downs with scratches, chips and worn parts. Nothing in the room matched, just a collection of stuff. There was only one light in the room by the bed; ten feet from the old, worn door. The only modern part of the room was the updated bathroom with more light than the romm with the wooden toilet seat and the TV and refrig. The rug was definitly worn, but clean. Staying here is convenient for those needing a stopover after a day's driving.

There is a restaurant downstairs that serves good quality meals in an equally rustic setting.

“Overpriced but Cheap”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

If you are in the area to ski, White Wolf Inn is a bargain compared to rooms at Sugarloaf. $70/night on weekends and $60 on weekdays (including tax). If it were not minutes from Sugarloaf, this place could not possibly charge more that $35 per night for a double room.

The beds were comfortable. Our room was very small which I never mind, but there was not a single chair in the room. No place to sit other than on the beds. No place to put clothing either, No dresser, not even a hanger for clothes anywhere in the room.

The door required a violent "tug and slam" effort to get it to close. It was difficult to get the key into the rusty lock, then difficult to get the key to turn. The bathroom door didn't fit its frame so it was impossible to close this door. The shower nozzle was at nose level. The one towel per person was very small and thin. No thicker than a cheap wash-rag.

The restaurant is enjoyable. Dinners are reasonably priced at under $10 and the food is quite good. Very cool, funky old jukebox. Amazing desserts.

“Great deal at the White Wolf Inn!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2010

I've stayed here many times over the past 2 winters and I love the place!!! Very clean' great owner, great food. Its' 10 minutes from Sugarloaf and 30 from Saddleback. So the location is almost perfect. The place is a little tiried But your paying $50 a night or 3 nights for $100. What were people expecting for that price? Plus I forgot the great view of the river. I can't wait to back there next winter. Take care, Ron

“Great place for dinner!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2010

We didn't stay at the White Wolf Inn based on previous TA reviews, however, we figured it was worth checking out for dinner, especially since there aren't many other options in Stratton, ME! Plus, the owner of our B&B (Tranquility Lodge which is GREAT!), recommended it as a dinner option so I figured it couldn't be TOO bad.

It was great that they were open until 8pm on a Sunday as several of the other local eateries had closed early. We pulled into the lot around 7:15pm and were seated with a smile.

My first impression of the place itself was definitely not a good one. It was very outdated, seemed a bit musty and there were lots of men hanging around the bar where we entered. However, the 'family' focused dining room toward the front of the Inn was great for my husband, me and our two sons (ages 3 and 8). There was only one other table of customers, so it was perfect for our family after a long day on the road.

We were somewhat surprised by the variety of menu selections. We started with an appetizer of Fiddleheads (ferns that are cooked and fried!) and they were DELICIOUS! They were served with a Parmesan cheese dipping sauce that was just so tasty. It reminded me of breaded cauliflower in a way.

My sons split the last serving of homemade meatloaf. It was served on a fancy plate with a fancy garnish. It came with very tasty homemade mashed potatoes and authentic red beets with their greens still attached. The boys gobbled it up in no time!

My husband played it safe and ordered the clam strip/french fry platter and I thought I'd try the homemade chicken 'fingers'. These were really good! It wasn't like a traditional strip ... it was a full chicken breast, that had been pounded flat and breaded with their homemade recipe. It was crispy and flavorful ... maybe even beer battered or something. The fries were very good too.

The bill came to $40 including tip and we just had water. Oh, but she gave the water to the boys in cute glass cowboy boots which they really enjoyed.

All in all I would eat there again and maybe try one of the fantastic desserts they had listed. It seemed a tad pricey to me based on the atmosphere, but clearly they have someone in the kitchen who knows what they're doing. It's just a shame they can't spruce the place up a bit! Maybe in time.
