“Worst lodging experience”

This was by far one of my worst lodging experiences I've had. Don't be fooled by the folksy charm of this motel's website -- your stay will not be charmed -- it will be really uncomfortable.

All of apx. 10 rooms are located on the second floor -- reached only by one flight of stairs. After a long tiring day of travel, carrying bags up to a second level was the last thing we wanted to do. Then, to reach this motel's largest room, we still had to walk AROUND a balcony, to get to the farthest side of the building. Too much carrying and walking.

As we opened the peeling painted door, and walked on the cheap carpeting, we immediately noticed that the floor slightly declined, meaning that our heads would be lower than our feet when we slept in the beds -- both having mattresses -- one-step up from cement slabs. The beds were covered with grandma's chenille and a wolf print blanket purchased probably from Walmart as this motel's website claims.

Their "largest" room was somewhat larger than my walk-in closet. Big enough to hold a double and single bed, one very small old beat-up desk -- and the only chair in the room matched the desk -- to hold butts only the size of postage stamps. That was it. We had one small TV with limited channels.

The best thing I can say about this lodging experience, was that the room was clean and the bathroom had new fixtures. However, the bathroom's towels were too small, the shower head was for short people, there were no shelves to put one's personal items on, no hooks to hang anything on. If you moved in the bathroom for any reason, you would hit something - it was that small.

After settling in, the room was stuffy. To our horror, we then noticed there was no window that could be opened, no air conditioner to turn on. This was mid-October in Maine, unseasonably warm-- we were lucky it wasn't summer -- to gain relief, we had to leave the room door open. Not that the door represented safety -- if a bull moose happened up the stairs and just slightly kicked at it -- we didn't have a chance.

We ate at the restaurant downstairs. The food portions were more than generous and the food was fresh and well-prepared.

By 4:30AM the next morning, my back couldn't take it anymore. We quickly packed our gear and left.

We strongly suggest that you consider spending $50 more -- find a $100/night lodging -- the savings at this lodging is simply not worth it.

  • Liked — It was clean
  • Disliked — All amenities provided were akin to slow torture -- a VERY uncomfortable stay
