The Kingsleigh Inn is a wonderful place to stay while visiting Acadia National Park. We stayed there four nights in September and would have loved to have stayed longer. Another reviewer has remarked that Pamela and Bryan clearly love their business, and we agree. Indeed, they have mastered the art (as well as the business) of running a B&B. This is clear in the warmth with which they greet their guests and the care with which they look after their guests’ needs. They are helpful in making restaurant recommendations and reservations (the Inn is within walking distance of at least four excellent restaurants). They have provided a fine collection of books about Acadia as well as hiking maps that guests can borrow and take on their hikes.
We stayed in the Wellington, on the first floor, the four nights we were there. The room was comfortable, with plenty of space. Some reviewers have remarked that their rooms were small, but ours certainly wasn’t. Though we were near the common rooms, our room was quiet. The bathroom was a bit small, but was certainly adequate.
Other reviewers have mentioned the excellent breakfasts, but we must talk about them, too. The three courses were prepared and presented with care and skill. The food was delicious. In addition, for early risers, there are coffee and tea and muffins or some other baked item at 7:00 am. And, as others have mentioned, coffee and tea are available all day.
A highlight for us was the social hour from 5 to 6, when we had a chance to meet and talk with the other guests. Wine and light hors d’oeuvres are provided.
Other reviewers have remarked on the level of street noise. The inn is on the main street of Southwest Harbor, and there are a few trucks going up and down the street, but not enough (while we were there, at least) to be bothersome. Of course, for the most part we weren’t at the Inn during the day. But one day it was raining so we stayed around the Inn until lunch time, sitting in the lounge at the front of the Inn. We didn’t notice street noise.
In fact, the quiet and peacefulness of the Inn is, in our view, one of its best assets. For us, the lack of televisions in the common rooms and most of the guest rooms is a plus.
We have stayed at B&Bs for over 25 years, and Kingsleigh Inn is certainly one of the best. We hope to return many times.
