“Peace, quiet and value in Southwest Harbor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Spur of the moment mid winter hiking trip to Acadia National Park was made both comfortable and enjoyable with my stay at the Seawall Motel. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and owners cordial and welcoming. Directly across from the ocean and on the quiet side of the island, the Seawall is a great choice for Mount Desert Island vacationers. This motel is also a value choice as well!

“Quiet Side of MDI”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

It was lovely staying at this motel on the Quiet Side of MDI over the Labor Day weekend. The room was very clean and spacious, and the wireless internet was fast and reliable. Dave and Vicki were very friendly, and the free breakfast included bagels, muffins, cereal, yogurt, fruit, and juice.

The best part about staying at this motel was actually being so close to the ocean. Because this motel is literally across the road from the ocean, I could hear the sound of the waves breaking on the shore during high tide.

“A Well Run Motel”

Great location ( the quiet side of MDI). Rooms were spotless and the owners very
knowledgeable about local eateries and attractions.

Room Tip: The upper floor has a view of the ocean

“Very nice place for a great price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

The good:
Owners of this motel could not be nicer. They were helpful and friendly. They even prepared a mini breakfast set up for us with coffee, bagels, and juices when we told them we would be leaving in the morning before breakfast was served
Continental breakfast included every morning for free
Free wifi- Good thing too b/c the cell reception isn't that great in the area, at least for Verizon.
Location! It's just across the street from the water and a tiny ways down the road from the Seawall Acadia entrance. It was off the beaten path a bit so it was a much more peaceful stay that actually staying in Bar Harbor.
Price!! This was the best price I found for a very clean place with all the necessary accommodations
Speedbump! the motel cat. I love animals so it's always a highlight when a place I stay has a little animal mascot so to speak.

The bad:
Thin walls. I could hear our neighbors snoring and people clomping up the stairs...but I was exhausted from hiking Acadia so it didn't keep me up.
Semi-uncomfortable bed. We were staying in a room with a king and the bed was just a little too firm for me. Nothing that can't be solved with a mattress pad though and probably has to do with my own personal preference for softer mattresses.
We felt a little out of a place being the youngest people during our stay. Im not sure if the hotel normally draws an older crowd. It seemed not specific to the hotel, but to the "quiet side" of the island in general.

The ugly:
So many spiders! I am terrified of them so it was a little unsettling to me, like a scene from arachnophobia. The good thing though, they were outside and not inside the room so it wasn't the end of the whole. Spiders are always bad in the fall so it can't be helped.

Room Tip: upper level rooms have a better view of the water.

“Home again...”

Beautiful, quiet, clean, comfortable, fantastic views, ample continental breakfast among interesting fellow travelers - all describe this very special motel on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island. But the thing that brings me home from a beautiful spot in Spain to celebrate my birthday here is the genuine welcome and attention offered by Dave, Vicki and Speedbump! This is my absolutely favorite motel, located in one of my absolutely favorite places on earth and run by some of the most absolutely kind and caring folks I know. My yearly visit has become a treasured part of my life.
