“Drydock - A Not So Hidden Gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2010

For the price of a chain hotel stay you can stay in charming comfort at this B&B. They conviently located in the center of town, and a moments car ride to local attrations like the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. To top it off they also have wireless Internet access. Multiple room options are available. My room was impecably kept clean and very comforable.

“Lovely Inn and Cafe in Acadia Maine.”

I stayed at this lovely Inn for two nights. The room was very comfortable and clean. The a/c was a bit loud. Southwest Harbor is a great location. It is off the beaten path but close enough to the National Park. The Inn keepers were warm and welcoming.

“Dry Dock "Inn" isn't really”

We made ressies for the Dry Dock to extend our stay near Acadia by one night (we changed our plans after making our initial reservations, and just needed one more night).

We saw reviews of "charming" and "quaint" so we made reservations.

We stopped by during the days before we were to check in, and we're glad we did! The "Inn" is just several rooms over a bar. They may be nice (we didn't even see them), but calling it an "Inn" is a stretch.

No dedicated parking: find a sopt on the street if you're lucky, or in a city lot a block or more away.
Tote your luggage up a narrow stairway to a room overlooking the cross street of the main drag an another busy street.
If you want to go to bed early, better bring earplugs because you're right over the resturant / bar.

We made reservations at another place for that night and were happy to eat the night's charge.

The Cafe drydock and Inn is located in downtown Southwest Harbor. The Inn has 7 rooms and dates to the 1920's. We do not have a front desk and also do not lock the front door. The inn is a stepback in time to a slower pace and that is what attracts so many people to us. As owners we live in the inn and are available 24 hours a day. We also own a resturant under the inn. All our rooms have private baths and never has anyone been alowed up stairs to use the bathrooms. The rooms all have deadbolts locks and there has never been a problem with the front door as the police station is across the street in a town of under 2,000 residents. We may not appeal to everyone. Are rooms are all modern and updated. Our resturant was closed when this person supposedly stayed here. There are many other fine places to stay on the island and we understand that you cannot please everyone in our 25 years of business.

“Home away from home”

My famliy and I have stayed at the Cafe Drydock many many times (we have three young kids). The service is great for a small hotel. Our room is always clean and neat (like we are the first people to ever stay there). The restruant down stairs has the best food...all made fresh with local ingredients. Can't get any better than that! The owners are always there walking around making sure that everything is OK and offering any advice on what to go and see in the area.
I've already booked our return for summer 2008. Can't wait to go!

My husband and I have stayed at Cafe Drydock on several occasions and have always experienced consistent, courteous service. The rooms are clean and attractively decorated with a local charm that a national chain hotel can not offer. The restaurant offers the freshest seafood purchased from local fisherman--try the fresh halibut sandwich, you'll never meet its match anywhere else. Of the several friends and family we have sent to Cafe Drydock, each has enthusiastically endorsed our recommendation. If you want to experience the true charm of a Maine coast town away from the tourist traps, head for Southwest Harbor and Cafe Drydock.
