“Super spot, great hospitality!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

We stayed here a week in early July. Brought our boat up as well and docked it at Great Harbor Marina (they are awesome folks too!). Our unit, the Quata-Deck, was very well equipped and we even put some things we brought (like a mini-Cuisinart) back in the truck. Had a little glitch with an expansion of the deck of the unit above us while we where there but the owner Dan handled it very well. The view, the location, and the great ambience of the unit were just great. Walking distance to downtown for those so inclined. Dined at Red Sky and it was over the top. If you are a foodie you need to go to Fiore downtown Bar Harbor for the most incredible oils and vinegars (sounds weird, but just go!)

It is self-catering so don't expect room service or maid service (which we are perfectly happy with).

“Not as nice as we expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2011

We had hoped to be able to enjoy the afternoon sun from our deck but it was shaded by trees until too late. Many of the units do enjoy sunny decks but not the Quata Deck. The accommodation was rather smaller than I expected from the photographs and we had difficulty stowing our cases and provisions. The kitchenette is mainly taken up by a large range and fridge but again, nowhere to put food that you don't want to store in a fridge and very little worktop to prepare meals. The bedroom was particularly cramped. The bathroom floor was sticky when we arrived and when I ran a cloth over it I discovered that it was also very dirty; rather off-putting.
Nevertheless SW Harbor is delightful and there are plenty of good places to eat.

For the last two summers, we have spent one week at this picturesque establishment. It is a top notch location, that I have, and will continue to reccomend to all of my friends and family! If you are going to be in the area, do your self a great service and stay here, it is truly wonderful!

“Great Waterfront Location”

We stayed at Pier One for our 10th anniversary last weekend in the Fok-Sol. It's a unique property right on the water very close to the center of Southwest Harbor (a 15-minute walk, we timed it). If you like very fresh lobster and seafood, Pier One is literally right next door to Beal's Lobster Pound.

The Fok-Sol is cozy and quaint. Lots of original beams, rustic paneling, antiques for decorations - very "shabby chic." But it has all of the modern amenities: updated bathroom; well outfitted kitchen; built-in hairdryer (!). The deck outside the kitchen is right on the water, and at high tide the water line is feet from the bedroom window - very cool. If you like ultra-modern and luxurious, this place is probably not for you. But if you don't mind authentic slanted floors, rustic antique-y decor, and being right close by a working fishing pier, you'll love it!

We walked to Southwest Harbor for dinner a couple of times. I would highly recommend Sips and Cafe 2 (a tip: make a reservation at Cafe 2 for dinner if you don't want to eat early; they fill up quickly and don't have many tables). Sips is very casual but elegant at the same time, and you can buy 2-oz "sips" of wine to try different ones. The meals at both restaurants were delicious!

Overall, I would highly recommend Pier One. We can't wait to go back.

“Deck House at Pier One----Fabulous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2009

My husband and I spent three wonderful nights over Labor Day weekend at the Deck House at Pier One. As previously stated it is a studio cottage with a huge deck. This is not a fancy place but had everything necessary for a great vacation. The deck is out over the water and just sitting there looking at the working harbor was extremely relaxing.
We had arranged for three nights there and three in Boothbay Harbor in a lovely B&B, but we really wished that we had spent the entire time at the Deck House. We will definitely return.
