“The best inn you will ever stay at!”

I can't say enough about how lovely our stay at the bear mountain inn was. Jim was so hospitable and very easy going. The inn is so charming and homey, and every small touch is there. We stayed in the great grizzly suite...we never wanted to leave! The hot tub was so nice, and the inn provides plenty of tea lights to light around the tub. We're already planning on coming back in April or May and we want to stay in one of the dog friendly rooms!!! I am not a morning person, but I was up every morning to eat one of Jims delicious breakfasts. Ohhh I miss it there already!! If you're looking for a slice of heaven surrounded by nature...stay here!

“Not just for young folks!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We stayed at the post and beam house at this inn for 4 days in January--six mature adults--and had a great time. Every year as a Christmas gift to each other my mom, my sisters and our spouses get together for a few days at some sort of B & B or rental house where we can relax, play in the snow (X-C ski, snowshoe) and simply enjoy each other's company. It sure beats sending material gifts back and forth to each other hundreds of miles away. When we were planning this year's trip, most of the reviews of this inn seemed to be from young couples or other younger folks, so we wondered if we would feel out of place, but not so!

The only awkward thing about the house is that both of the bathrooms must be entered by going into one of the bedrooms first. People using the loft sleeping areas felt as though they might be intruding on those in the bedrooms with adjacent bathrooms, especially during the night or early in the morning. Figuring out which light switches control which lights/outlets takes some time, too, but if you enjoy puzzles and approach it light-heartedly, even that can provide sufficient entertainment to outweigh its frustration!

The website description for the kitchen in this house is absolutely correct--gourmet--with top notch appliances (hard to believe how quiet the dishwasher is!), plenty of counter & cupboard space for food preparation and good quality cookware. There are enough dishes, glassware and tableware for 6-8 people.

We had a great time, and loved the open floor plan of the house for hanging out together. It was easy to find excellent restaurants within a 10-40 minute drive of the Inn. There is a nice short trail through the woods on the inn property for light snowshoeing/X-C skiing, and there are several X-C ski areas nearby with rental equipment and reasonable trail fees. We especially recommend Five Fields Farm on Route 107 near South Bridgton.

Room Tip: If you are bothered by heights you may not want to take the loft sleeping spaces, as the open floor...

“Hidden Gem”

My husband and I wanted a getaway, so we looked online and found Bear Mountain Inn. We booked a few nights during the first week of January, a great way to welcome the new year! We were familiar with the area, since we had vacationed nearby for years and even remembered driving by the inn. To our surprise and delight, the inn surpassed our expectations. Jim was very welcoming and personable. He showed us around and told us about the history of the place. The entire inn was immaculately clean.
We stayed in the Fuzzy Bear room, which had a beautiful fireplace, wet bar, comfy bed, large jacuzzi tub for two with a shower.....and everywhere, there were unexpected personal touches, candles, homemade cookies, candies, bottled water in the refrigerator, robes and slippers, just to name a few. The first night, Jim turned on the outdoor hot tub and showed us the shortcut through the historic barn, which is attached to the spacious inn. It was only 25 degrees at night, but we took our bottle of champagne and ran in our robes to the outdoor hot tubi. What fun to gaze at the stars while sitting in comfort outside, on a cold winter night! We woke the next morning to a snow-covered landscape!
Jim's breakfasts were very nice, presented attractively in the rustic dining room with the stone fireplace. His daughter had decorated the inn for Christmas, so we enjoyed looking at all the wonderful decorations. We had a great day exploring, shopping and returning to old haunts. That evening, Jim recommended a great restaurant and we had a romantic dinner.

Our stay was relaxing, peaceful and just what we were looking for. We hiked on the property to the lakefront, then through the woods by a running stream. It was a nice walk and we recommend that to everyone. Trails are clearly marked and it is an easy hike. With more snow, sleigh rides are available, as well as snowshoe adventures and cross country skiing.

We look forward to a return trip and highly recommend this lovely hidden gem to everyone.

Room Tip: Outside our room, there was a common area that you could make coffee, tea. Water, fruit, granola ba...

“Awesome rooms, great people, attention to detail”

They really think of every detail...from champagne and chocolate covered strawberries to candles and cookies. Jim and his family are great people...super friendly and accomodating hosts. We eloped here last year on New Years and came back to celebrate our one year anniversary this year. Amazing 2 person jaccuzi in the bear paw room is highly recommended! Be sure to check out Ebenezers when you are here...it is rated the number 1 beer bar in the world! Venezian is a great Italian restaurant...a little pricey, but well worth it. The view of the lake is gorgeous...a star filled night in the outdoor hot tub overlooking the lake makes a nice end to a great day. We will be back for sure!

Room Tip: Bear Paw is away from the main inn, but has the best jacuzzi in the place.

Very well maintained and decorated Classic New England Inn. Beautiful setting, perfect for a small wedding. Jim, the host, was warm and approachable. He had everything under control without being overbearing. We had a splendid time!
