My husband and I wanted a getaway, so we looked online and found Bear Mountain Inn. We booked a few nights during the first week of January, a great way to welcome the new year! We were familiar with the area, since we had vacationed nearby for years and even remembered driving by the inn. To our surprise and delight, the inn surpassed our expectations. Jim was very welcoming and personable. He showed us around and told us about the history of the place. The entire inn was immaculately clean.
We stayed in the Fuzzy Bear room, which had a beautiful fireplace, wet bar, comfy bed, large jacuzzi tub for two with a shower.....and everywhere, there were unexpected personal touches, candles, homemade cookies, candies, bottled water in the refrigerator, robes and slippers, just to name a few. The first night, Jim turned on the outdoor hot tub and showed us the shortcut through the historic barn, which is attached to the spacious inn. It was only 25 degrees at night, but we took our bottle of champagne and ran in our robes to the outdoor hot tubi. What fun to gaze at the stars while sitting in comfort outside, on a cold winter night! We woke the next morning to a snow-covered landscape!
Jim's breakfasts were very nice, presented attractively in the rustic dining room with the stone fireplace. His daughter had decorated the inn for Christmas, so we enjoyed looking at all the wonderful decorations. We had a great day exploring, shopping and returning to old haunts. That evening, Jim recommended a great restaurant and we had a romantic dinner.
Our stay was relaxing, peaceful and just what we were looking for. We hiked on the property to the lakefront, then through the woods by a running stream. It was a nice walk and we recommend that to everyone. Trails are clearly marked and it is an easy hike. With more snow, sleigh rides are available, as well as snowshoe adventures and cross country skiing.
We look forward to a return trip and highly recommend this lovely hidden gem to everyone.
