“A week of creative, beautiful, delectable breakfasts at this charming B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2009

We selected this B&B because of its attractive, well-organized website and proximity to several towns on the Maine coast, without being in the more congested areas. We were pleased that the couple who own and manage the house could accommodate our vegetarian diet. The menu changed every day and included fruits, breads, and entrees that were skillfully prepared and artistically presented. Such variety! With the exception of the coffee, orange juice, and butter, there were no repeats over the course of 7 mornings. The gracious hosts Pat and Frank were engaging and helpful with suggestions of places to visit or eat. We chose our room because of its view of the ocean. The other rooms were larger than ours yet we had adequate space for sleeping and dressing. Would only recommend The Brigadier room if you can manage living in close quarters with your roommate/partner and welcome that adventure. A favorite in-room activity was looking out the window for the resident foxes and to see the ocean through the break in the trees. There are lovely common rooms where guests can read, play games or simply relax. An eclectic library is available for guest use. The house is located right on Route 1, the main coastal road. Our room was in the rear of the house and we could hear a little road noise from passing trucks. We especially enjoyed the skylight in the bathroom which we could open.

“Warm, relaxed setting with gourmet breakfasts and delightful hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2009

The historic Watchtide - by the sea Inn is very comfortable and has many interesting and unique furnishings. The hosts make you very comfortable and then disappear to allow you privacy. The room we stayed in was immaculate and furnished with antique quilts, very nice art work, lush bathrobes, and a private bathroom that was modern. Our king sized bed was extreemly comfortable. The views over the Penobscot Bay are glorious, we saw a red fox and a deer during our stay. Flowers were in abundance. We chose Searsport for it's central location on the Maine coast and were able to visit many scenic towns, parks, forts, and museums daily with only short auto trips North or South. Our hosts were very helpful with directions, arranged a sailing trip on Penobscot Bay, and gave us hints on interesting places to visit. We loved the gormet breakfasts every morning - the menu changed every day as did the china and place settings. The presentation of the food was inventive and beautiful and it all tasted delicious. Every request was met above and beyond. We can't think of anything we did not like about this Inn. Highly recommend a visit. We will be going back.

“I'd go back in a minute...”

We found Watchtide by the Sea on B&B.com. We had a great time. There are new owners who are gradually updating the very large building. The sun porch, a large, sunny room where breakfast is served, was wonderful--furnished with a variety of chairs, sofas, and a wicker lounge that was my favorite. I could sit there, look out at an expanse of green with Penobscot Bay in the distance, and just enjoy the morning. There are other public rooms--a living room and a library--and all are supplied with books, magazines, and guide books. Breakfast was great with lots of variety during the three days we were there. Our air conditioner cooled the room with no difficulty. I'd go back in a minute!
