“Perfectly Acceptable”

Our family and our friends had two rooms here for a ski weekend. While the front manager was a man of few words, I was prepared for that based on the reviews that I had read here. He did his work quickly and efficiently, and had not lost our reservations. Our request to have rooms next to each other was honored, and we were on the second floor. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with no sign of bedbugs (I checked). We appreciated the large refrigerator, mini-microwave and free bagels and coffee in the morning, as well as the quietness. I do wish there was a table in the room, however. Even though there were lots of snowmobiles, you could not hear them through the walls. We ate supper at the Sunset Grille, the restaurant on site, and thought the food was fine and the service was excellent. Probably the most impressive part was that I saw the owner himself shoveling out cars in the morning, as we had received six inches of snow overnight.

Our group: 5 families with children ages 7 to 17. We decided to check out Saddleback for New Years Eve week-end skiing. The owner or whomever we booked the rooms was less than friendly or accommodating. He bad-mouth the other properties in the area that we were considering. Despite the bad vipe my wife and I experienced we settled on this location because the other families wanted an indoor pool for their younger children.
Upon arrival the rooms and beds were found very clean and noticeably newly renovated, albeit very small rooms. The problem; one of the rooms in the group found a dead mouse a poopies in one of the beds. No idea how this happened because there was no other evidence of mice but nonetheless an unusual and odd circumstance. Of course the excitement was heightened with this being the assigned room for the teenage girls and they found the mouse upon arrival! Our complaint was not necessarily the chaos this odd situation created but rather how the owner reacted to the problem. He quickly assigned a crew to clean up the mess but became very agitated about giving us a credit or some sort of compensation for a clearly outrageous quality issue. We were staying for three days with five families, and renting six rooms. Bottom line...the owner could have done a much better job of handling the situation. Entire group of people will likely think twice about returning as a result.
A convenient location, indoor pool and comfortable beds were the positives.

“Great stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2011

Just got back from a 1 night visit here from a Saddleback ski weekend. Inn is on rte 4, near town, and 7 miles from Saddleback Mtn. Very convienient location. The checkin/checkout process was quick and friendly - they have a small array of snacks and coffee to help yourself to. The room was simply appointed and very clean. The hot water was very hot and the heat worked very well - perfect after a day skiing. The night we stayed it snowed 8inches overnight. In the morning, a nice lady was out in the lot helping travelers to clean off their cars. Very appreciated to say the least. All in all, definately would stay there again.

“The rooms are fairly new & very clean.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2011

We will definately stay there again. The rooms were very clean & new. I have to say the on site restaurant was horrible......I mean really horrible. You would also think that the restaurant would be open for breakfast since it is at the inn. If you want a nice place to eat try the Farmhouse Restaurant down the street. Also, inn is located on the snowmobile trails for easy access.

“Nice motel, lousy "manager" (Don).”

My family searched for a night getaway with a pool and snowmobile access in western ME and found Rangeley Saddleback. Nice location with snowmobile trail, grocery store, lake, and restaurants close by. Facilities were clean and modern with micro, fridge, tv, and internet. Their restaurant had good food and was open late. Parking was convenient - right outside room.
The young guy that called himself the general manager (masters in bus. yeah right) needs a quick lesson in people skills. During my 1-day stay he poked fun at 3 different customers after they left the office. I'm sure he had some smart a$$ comment about me to. One costumer simply asked for a hair dryer - he said make sure you return it or you'll be charged more than its worth. She suggested they should be in every room or available when needed. He replied "this isn't the Ritz Carlton". Not once did I hear him say please or thanks. After I checked in he came out to tell me that I needed to unhook my sled trailer / truck because parking is an issue. No please or thanks. I wasn't too cordial and made note of the 4 cars in the entire parking lot. Later in the evening there were more cars, but at no point was it even close to full. The pool that the kids looked forward to was so COLD it took about 5 minutes to muster the courage to take the plunge. I was the only adult that made it in and several other kids jumped in only to pop back out within a minute. The chlorine level was so high I saw several kids rubbing their eyes.
I recommend the hotel BUT improvements are needed in the managerial social skills.
