“Great bargain price this time of year...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

This B&B has dramatic price decreases during the off-season. Our room, Luxury Room 108, would go for more than $220 during the season but we were able to get it for less than $90 this time of year! The room had a king-sized bed, flat screen tv, jacuzzi tub, exposed brick walls, fridge, coffee maker, and was only 2 steps from the lobby. I also liked the pop of color in the bathroom! There are 3 different levels of accommodations - some share a bath. A continental bkft is included with the stay - the amount of food was perfect for me. They have cereal, yogurt, juice, croissants, and fruit. There are cookies that are out all time of day and there is also tea/coffee/hot water. Parking is free - there is a lot just behind the B&B. The staff is very friendly. I did see room ac units in some of the windows. Our room, on the first floor right on the street, did not have any ac unit in it. Of course, this being winter in New England, they might have removed the unit due to the season. All in all, a great place, reasonably priced and convenient to everything you would want!

“Consisitently Great Front Desk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

I've stayed at this inn several times over the past year for work. The front desk crew, especially Miles and Glen, are very knowledgable and helpful, whether it's been an issue with my computer, or the perfect place for a business lunch or dinner, they offer wonderful service.

The rooms are very well kept, and the prices are very reasonable.

“Tiny Bed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

I staid in a "Queen room, private hall bathroom".
The Bed was super small - almost impossible to sleep if you need to share it.
Bathroom was not next door!
Breakfast was not specially good.
Staff is very friendly but I would not stay there again

Room Tip: for sure NOT a room with private hall bathroom

“My new go to accomodation in Portland...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

I work in Portland and sometimes decide to just stay in town if I am working late or if weather is an issue. I have stayed at most of the local low budget places and they are all OK. I drive past the Inn at St John every day and have heard mixed things about it. I finally chose to stay here last week for 1 night and I do not think I will stay anywhere else from now on. I checked in at lunch time around 1pm and was given a King room on the second floor with private bath. The room was larger than expected, with floral wallpaper and an old world charm to it. Not run down or dirty in any way. It was very homey and comfortable. The bed was great with lots of pillows. There was a flat panel TV attached to the wall with a plethora of channels. The bathroom was quite large with bathrobes and lots of complimentary toiletries. Everything was over and above any thing that I had expected for the price I paid. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Breakfast in the AM consisted of bagels, Thomas' English muffins, croissants, cereals, muffins, etc. Coffee & tea is available in the lobby 24 hrs. I can't wait to rebook at the Inn at St. John. It was such a wonderful relaxing place to retire after a long day at work. I will be back!!!!!

Room Tip: There is no elevator so take that into consideration when checking in.

“A hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011 via mobile

Had a great stay at this small, old and wonderful hotel. Our room was nicely decorated and very large. We had a private bath which we had to access from the hall. A little different, but not a problem. A very good breakfast was included in the rate. No elevator. If you don't want to climb the steep stairs make sure and request a first floor room. Also, dog friendly.
