The admission staff was good: end of good comments.
One of our rooms smelled horrible, as did the stairwell going up. When advised of the problem, the staff offered a refund, IE: find someplace else. This weekend was busy in Portland ME area, there were no other options, especially after a 9 hour drive to get there. They offered a spray which smelled more like urine than air freshener. Even leaving the second floor window open the meager 4 inches allowed by the security block on it did nothing to alleviate the odor. The center stair well smelled like a urinal also. Other guests overheard our comments and said theirs smelled also.
The Weekend Day manager on our 3rd and final night offered to change rooms. The room they offered was still dirty from the previous "guest" and this was 7 in the evening.
On checking out, a different day manager offered us a 10% discount. Fortunately a general manager arrived and finally refunded the room rent.
Another negative was that internet was available for $4 a day. This is the first place in years we have stayed at where they charged for that. The ice machine was a floor down from us and next to the clothes dryer. Imagine how solid that ice was. No shampoo was in either room, threadbare towels, 6 available television channels with no options for more channels. One day the two of us received one hand towel, sharing is big there, I guess.
Non smoking rooms had cigarette burns in on the bed spreads and guests and staff was smoking just outside the only entry door, forcing non-smokes to enjoy the pleasure of second hand smoke.
Will we return? Tom Burdett, you best do more than leave the light on. But as I said the desk staff was good. We could not understand the housekeeping “English”. Saves on shampoo, I guess.
