Got last minute tickets to a show at Ogunquit Playhouse, and came up with my girllfriend for Columbus Day weekend. E-mailed Brandee, the proprietor, a few days before arrival, and she responded within a day, giving us the last room available. The motel is on the Ogunquit-Wells town line (hence the name), away from the hubbub and traffic of Ogunquit but within trollley and walking distance of the beaches, and only a couple miles' drive from the Playhouse.
The Towne Lyne's got a few features that made it better than your average motel. Each room has its own enclosed balcony in back facing the motel's well-maintained lawn. The lawn has little gazebos set out for people to sit, read, or enjoy watching the ducks that swim in the brook that abuts the property. I'm an early riser, and spent an enjoyable Sunday morning sitting on our balcony enjoying the unseasonably warm October weather.
The room had all kinds of little homey touches,-- teddy bear shower curtain, stuffed bear cozy, throw pillow and quilt over two nice rocking chairs with their backs to the front window-- as well as a comfortable bed and modern amenities (coffee maker, hi-def tv with all the channels, free internet connection). Brandee was very helpful with directions to the beaches and other attractions-- and check out her huge smiley-face collection in the office before you go. All in all, this place is a cut above your average motel, and I'd highly recommend giving them a call. At $89 offseason rate, it was a great find.
