“Excellent Location - Inn is a bit tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

The location of this Inn is perfect. It's on Shore Road, a block from the beach and is extremely convenient. It's hard to believe that an Inn in such a perfect location would have older rooms, peeling paint outside and overgrown grass. Granted, the price of the room is $100 less expensive than the Inn across the street so it is definitely a good value -- just know it's not clean and fresh like many other inns. We did end up having a nice time, despite the condition, because the location was just so perfect. A fresh coat of paint and some colorful flowers could really give this place a much needed face lift. But the rooms were clean, the air conditioning worked well and the owner was nice, but a little removed. Breakfast was just ok and was included in the price.

“A great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2011

If you like dogs, being a short walk to the beach, in the center of town, and a great value, then this is the place to stay. We loved being able to walk everywhere! The kids were comfortable, loved the westie in residence and the ice cream shop across the street.

“Great location.”

The West Highland Inn offers one amazing thing: its location. A friend and I decided to take a roadtrip from NYC to Maine in July 2011 and last minute needed a B&B in Ogunquit for a night. The Innkeeper, Steve, was very helpful and even gave us a better than advertised rate b/c it was so last minute. (Thank you Steve!) From the minute you arrive at inn, you are slapped in the face with West Highland dog tchotkes - signs, statues, pictures, books, etc. Even though I am a dog lover, this was a bit too much... however the actual dog that greets you is very sweet. The inn's location is in the heart of ogunquit, right by marginal way, the path to the beach, the downtown shopping area.

my friend and i stayed in room #5. decent. the air conditioning worked, the bed was fine, the size of the room was adequate. the major issue was the shower, which luckily we weren't staying longer than a night or else we would have been in trouble. I cannot speak for other rooms and their bathroom situations so please take what i'm saying with a grain of salt. the inn is clean, although too much stuff everywhere for my liking.

breakfast was ok. three courses consisted of a slice of cherry pastry from a box, a simple fruit plate and eggs/bacon.toast. it was ok. it was there and convenient although looking back i wish we went into town to have a freshly made pastry and a cappuccino.

all in all a fine place to stay.

“We liked the fact that the room had a separate sitting room and bath as well as a homey bedroom.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2010

The owner was friendly and the fall rate couldn't be beat.
it was steps to the center as well as the marginal way.
Food was average but was lacking in quality. the room was actually a suite with separate sitting room and inbetween that and the bedroom was a little counter area and small refrigerator.
was worth the price.

“We liked it so much we came back one week later”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2009

We were heading up the coast of Maine and loved the beach of Ogunquit so much that we decided to stay. We drove around a bit and liked the outside look of the West Highland Inn. Luckily enough they had a vacancy. Our room was great! The decor was very charming but not kitchy, it was a very good sized room (number 7). Steve the Innkeeper was very kind, as was the dog Clementine. Breakfast is served on the enclosed porch, they serve fresh fruit, waffles, pancakes, cake, that sort of thing, i.e. on the sweet side. You can relax in the yard out front. It's very close to the beach and all the restaurants. Next door is Prego's, which makes pretty good brick oven pizza.
