“Longtime customer, always coming back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

I truly believe this hotel deserves to be better than "#20 of 37 hotels in Ogunquit". Proof enough is the fact that my family has been coming to this same spot every year since the 1960's. As the youngest member of my family, I have been coming here for all of my 25 years. To say that I am a loyal customer is an understatement!

The staff is wonderful. The view can't be beat. The grounds are impecacbly kept. The unique location gives you the option to lay out on the lawn while looking at the ocean and the beach without actually having to be at the beach. It's especially nice on crowded beach days! Or, you can walk about 5 minutes around the water and be at the beach.

There is a great sense of community among the other guests. Each time we go, we meet new people who become longtime friends. You can't help but feel at home here.

Sure, the rooms are not as big and luxurious as some of the other hotels in the area, but trust me when I say the charm of the Marginal Way House can't be beat. You won't regret your say here!

Room Tip: Book the Cottage if you can. It is a separate one-bedroom house that can sleep 6 ppl and is practial...

“Five feet from the ocean!”

We had been driving all day, beginning in NH, and couldn't believe our fortune when we arrived at the Marginal Way House. We booked online and didn't quite know what to expect, but simply floored by the views.
We stayed in the 6 room motel at the edge of the property, on the upper floor, and just sat and watched the tide come in for about an hour. So relaxing. The room itself is quite comfortable and clean, and a little old-school, which I appreciated.
The grounds are lovely, and although it wasn't sit outside weather while we were there, I can truly imagine sitting in the Adirondacks on the common grounds, watching the sunset.
The location of the property is about 50 feet from downtown, with all the shops and dining at your doorstep.
One very unexpected moment in our stay was when the alarm clock went off at 6:30 AM. Neither of us had set it, and after rolling over to notice the incredible red-orange sky of the morning dawn, believed that someone in the staff or visit before us knew better and set it for us. Incredible scene!

Room Tip: Get one of the rooms in the Motel, by the ocean. The best views from what we could tell.

“Relaxing and Comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Had a wonderfully relaxing 3-night stay in October, and the off-season rate was very reasonable. Of course room choice is key. We were lucky to get a beautiful ocean view from the 1st floor of the Wharf House. Location is perfect, on a charming side street off the village center. There aren't a lot of amenities here (no room phones), but we didn't need them. We had already done most of our sightseeing, and were looking for a comfortable place to read. This place has reading nooks galore, with cozy porches and living rooms in both the main house and wharf house, and a beautiful private yard overlooking the sea.

“Peace by the Sea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

The main buillding at The Marginal Way House is an Old New England House quite quaint and located on the waterfornt without the noise of a crowded beach. Nice lawn in front facing the sea where one can bring pets during low season. Cozy and inviting porches. Friendly atmosphere.

Room Tip: The rooms of the motel are "on the "sea" but most of the others have a nice or front...

“A Wonderful Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

The Marginal Way House "A memory maker and love of a lifetime" review
is the most accurate of all here. We have been staying there for 10 years and
It that review catches the distinct charm and fun of the place which is pretty much
how we feel.

Why is this wonderful jewel of a hotel rated only 23rd, with much lesser places not even
near the ocean such as Parson's Post House, Studio East, Towne Line Motel,
Sea Rose suites (not even sure where that one is) rated ahead of it? What are these
foolish ratings based on -how many people submit reviews?

Anyone who has stayed in Ogunquit surely must realize that the Marginal Way House
is definitely among the top five places to stay.
