“Not recommended for families, or anyone under 50”

I just returned with my family ( ages 3 and 6) and all was pretty much okay until the last hour of the last day of our vacation. It seemed our "host" had things bottled up inside and just let loose on me because I asked for an hour extended check-out. I was pretty sure it wouldnt be a problem because the Inn was not full at all, a majority of people checked out on Sunday, the day before.

However, I felt that since my host knew that I had 2 small children, that it would be accomodating to me to grant the wish. Well, she did, saying I could have an hour, at the most. So, I told my 2 children that while I packed, Daddy would go with them to the pool and they could swim a little bit on their last day.

After I returned the key, about 15 min later, my host came out to the pool and LITERALLY and OFFICIALLY asked me and my children to LEAVE!!! AT first, I didn't know if she was serious, then she forcefully said that when I check out it is COMPLETELY OFF the premises ! There were 2 other people at the pool at the same time who heard this, and they were shocked, as well as I was, They told me they themselves would go to the Chamber of Commerce and complain, they had never seen anything like it.

I am still in shock that after spending $195 p/night for 5 nights, that on the last day of our stay, I was kicked out, because I was NO LONGER welcome. I was welcome until 11AM, but not after that. What gets me the most, is that the inn was half-empty that day, with only 2 other people sunning themselves, and IT BOTHERED THE HOST THAT MY 2 children were using the pool at 12:15PM. (they were they only ones in the pool) Unbelievable.

I have never in my entire life experienced such rudeness, being so unprovoked. I was extremely careful and considerate of my behaviour and my children's the ENTIRE time. My only complaint is that there is NO INSULATION/sound proofing at all in the entire inn. You walk down the hall to your room and you can clearly hear conversations, and different tv channels that are being watched.

We considered staying an extra night, or perhaps returning still this summer. However, folks, please read those negative reviews. They are right on. The owners are not hosts, they seem to be in the wrong business, it shouldn't be hospitality.I did feel like another poster with kids when she said she felt like she was being watched so closely.

However, if you have no children and you are of the quiet type, especially older, and if you don't eat much for breakfast, or use the pool towels, then, this is the place for you. The hosts will be very happy with guests like that.

“Extremely clean B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2007

If I have only one thing to say about this B&B is that it is extremely clean. We had a very large room with 2 double-beds. A small fridge was very convenient and the owner gave us some ice for our cooler. Very quiet. I liked the hot tub. The breakfast was a full breakfast but I would have liked more variety. 10 minutes walk to the beach. The owner gave us a couple of good names for restaurants. I would go back to this place mainly for the cleanliness of the room.

“New and clean but no charm”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 March 2007

The White Rose Inn is not a typical bed-and-breakfast. The building is newly constructed, not an older house that has been renovated as a b-n-b. The furniture and decor as well feel more like a large hotel or chain than a quaint, intimate inn. The dining room especially feels like a cafeteria. That being said, this property was a wonderful compromise for me and my fiancee as I adore small inns but many of them can be somewhat old, musty, or cramped, which he abhors.

We stayed in a jacuzzi suite in the corner of the building away from the road, so we were closer to the woods at the back. The room had a small living room and a bedroom, and the jacuzzi, as opposed to being located in the bathroom, is in the corner of the bedroom, which I guess some people may like but I found a bit strange. The suite was large enough that we had 4 friends come over to get ready for dinner and there was enough space for the boys to be in the living room and the girls in the bedroom.

The inn is located on the west side of route 1, so you cross the main road and walk north for a bit to reach Ogunquit village. The walk is not far at all, but there are also plenty of inns located closer or within the village.

Overall, the inn was very functional as a place to stay, but it's not a place you want to spend any time relaxing at or that I am dying to return to.

“Not Recommended- don't believe the website”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2006

If you're looking for an impersonal motel with cold and uncharming hosts, this is the place for you. Based on their website claims, you would expect something charming and warm but what we got was the complete opposite. Our room was cold and austere with mismatched furniture that reminded me of staying in a motel rather than an inn. It is somewhat conveniently located to Ogunquit (you have to walk along busy Route 1 to get to the town which wasn't too terrible). Overall, we were very disappointed.

“Not recommended if looking to relax”

I would not recommend this property for families. We recently stayed here with friends, who have a 10 year child. Throughout the entire weekend I felt the owners went out of their way to watch over our shoulders and looked for opportunities to "enforce" their rules (and apparently, there are a LOT of rules). I felt their behavior made our stay very tense and uncomfortable. The room was very clean although lacked B&B charm. The breakfast was decent but small and not gourmet as advertised. The pool is heated but very small and shallow. The property location is okay, it is on the main road and about a 5-10 minute walk to town. Overall, an average accommodation but lacked the privacy and relaxation we were looking for, next time we will probably stay at a larger beachfront property for the same price.
