“Never In Summer”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2011

Never stay at the White Rose in Summer. The owner has air-conditioned the first floor - where she lives. But the rooms on the second floor are sweat boxes. I would not put a prisoner of war up there in the heat - probably would violate the Geneva Conventions. Clearly, the owner could care less about the comfort of her guests.

“Lacks charm - don't be deceived by website”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2008

If you are looking for a charming, quaint, personal Inn or B&B, this is NOT the place for you. I found the White Rose Inn online and their website made it seem quite nice. "Luxury suites, spacious studio suites and charming guest rooms..." This is not the case. The room I stayed in was slightly better decorated than a hotel chain room. Tiny TV, no telephone in the room. No soundproofing at all - I could hear every cough sneeze & other sounds of the rooms across, next to and below me. Especially annoying when the people next to me came in at 2:00am and proceeded to LOUDLY discuss the wedding they had just attended next door.
Apparently the Inn was purchased by the owner's of the Admiral's Inn down the road - they offered 'onsite massage services' in their confirmation letter. When I responded that I would be interested in having a massage during my stay, I was e-mailed the (long distance) phone number of the therapist and told to set up the appointment myself. I found this rather odd that they would offer the service, yet not make the arrangements. Owners were not overly friendly or helpful. Also, the website offers "October thru February: A freshly prepared full breakfast is available". There is no breakfast available at the Inn. You have to walk down the road to the Admiral's Inn between 8am-10am you can have a drink, muffin and maybe a bagel. Tiny pool & tiny hottub. Definitely a disappointment.

“Great Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2008

This was our second stay and plan on another visit. We really enjoy this place. The room is a nice size and has a small balcony. It is comfortable, homey, new and clean. It has all the amenities we need. The hosts, Pat and Ernie are warm and gracious. There is a pool and hot tub and a breakfast buffet is served in summer. We've stayed in a number of places in Ogunquit over the years and found the White Rose Inn to be the most comfortable. It has the feel of a small hotel with the comforts of a B&B. It is a short walk to town and the beach.

“Perfect spot for a family getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2007

I stayed at the White Rose Inn with my two daughters, 1 and 4 and had an awesome experience. I was extremely pleased with the immaculate housekeeping. My youngest is still crawling and I had no problem with letting her move around the room or any of the common rooms. I read the very few negative response and can't believe how they have related their experiences. Surely we didn't stay in the same Inn as I found the Innkeepers very understanding, kind, and generous towards my family. I will book another stay there and enjoy the large rooms, yummy breakfast, and pool.
Thank you for such a great getaway!

“Not recommended for families, or anyone under 50”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2007

I just returned with my family ( ages 3 and 6) and all was pretty much okay until the last hour of the last day of our vacation. It seemed our "host" had things bottled up inside and just let loose on me because I asked for an hour extended check-out. I was pretty sure it wouldnt be a problem because the Inn was not full at all, a majority of people checked out on Sunday, the day before.

However, I felt that since my host knew that I had 2 small children, that it would be accomodating to me to grant the wish. Well, she did, saying I could have an hour, at the most. So, I told my 2 children that while I packed, Daddy would go with them to the pool and they could swim a little bit on their last day.

After I returned the key, about 15 min later, my host came out to the pool and LITERALLY and OFFICIALLY asked me and my children to LEAVE!!! AT first, I didn't know if she was serious, then she forcefully said that when I check out it is COMPLETELY OFF the premises ! There were 2 other people at the pool at the same time who heard this, and they were shocked, as well as I was, They told me they themselves would go to the Chamber of Commerce and complain, they had never seen anything like it.

I am still in shock that after spending $195 p/night for 5 nights, that on the last day of our stay, I was kicked out, because I was NO LONGER welcome. I was welcome until 11AM, but not after that. What gets me the most, is that the inn was half-empty that day, with only 2 other people sunning themselves, and IT BOTHERED THE HOST THAT MY 2 children were using the pool at 12:15PM. (they were they only ones in the pool) Unbelievable.

I have never in my entire life experienced such rudeness, being so unprovoked. I was extremely careful and considerate of my behaviour and my children's the ENTIRE time. My only complaint is that there is NO INSULATION/sound proofing at all in the entire inn. You walk down the hall to your room and you can clearly hear conversations, and different tv channels that are being watched.

We considered staying an extra night, or perhaps returning still this summer. However, folks, please read those negative reviews. They are right on. The owners are not hosts, they seem to be in the wrong business, it shouldn't be hospitality.I did feel like another poster with kids when she said she felt like she was being watched so closely.

However, if you have no children and you are of the quiet type, especially older, and if you don't eat much for breakfast, or use the pool towels, then, this is the place for you. The hosts will be very happy with guests like that.
