“Good Breakfast, Nice Staff, Noisy Building”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2011

The Grand Summit is family friendly....perhaps too family friendly. I would recommend this place for families, but not for couples looking for peace and quiet. The walls are very thin, and in our room it basically sounded like a herd of elephants walking on the floor above all day long. We noted teenagers, perhaps 16 or 17 years old drinking beer in the pool and hottub at night. The staff was very friendly and all the valets were very nice. The breakfast is very good. Showering is an adventure here. You have to duck in and out of the water between fluctuations of scalding and freezing water. I reccommend showering during non peak hours such as 3AM for your own safety. The beds were comfortable and room amenities were simple but acceptable. The ski area is very nice, I would visit Sunday River again, but will look into a bed and breakfast instead of the Grand Summit.

“OK - Not much in the room but it was fine”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2011

We stayed here while skiing at Sunday River. I think it is a typical ski hotel, nice beds but not much else in the room except a TV and a bathroom and a table with coffee maker. You don't really need much else if you're going to spend all your time skiing.
Pros:
- Location was great, you could ski from the hotel right to the lift and very easy to ski back home.
- Breakfast: Breakfast was included in our package and was served from 7 to 10:30 every morning. Specially liked the omletes and the chicken hash. Servers were very good at filling up coffee cups and water.
- Beds were very comfortable
- heater worked really well in our room
- Heated outdoor pool and hot tub: It was great to be able to relax in the hot tub and pool after a day of skiing. Pool was open till 10PM every night.
- Staff - from the front desk clerk to the housecleaning staff, everyone was friendly and helpful. A++
- Shuttle around the Sunday River Area

Cons:
- Rooms are a bit dated however with the beating that the rooms get from skiers I completely understand the industrial carpeting.
- Noise: There were some rowdy skiers across the hall from us and you could hear them all night. Also a lot of door banging all through the night.
- no where to sit in the room except two cafe chairs at a table. it would have been nice to have some kind of easy/soft chair to read in.
- Area around the hot tub. Since the outside pools are heated you have to be very careful getting out of the pool and entering the hot tub. because of the water from the pool it freezes up very easily around the edges and I slipped on the ice going to the hot tub from the pool. I landed on my arm but luckily didn't break anything just some scrapes.
- Kids: This is something the hotel can't do anything about but there were kids everywhere and the parents did not watch them. Under 13 years were supposed to be accompanied in the pool area but there were lots of kids w/o parents around both in the pool and hot tub.

I would definitely stay here again if I return to Sunday River. The location is great and it was nice to be able to ski on and off the mountain. We had friends who stayed in the condos at Sunday River and said it was very bare so we were glad of our choice.

“Wedding Held here... results not great”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

A friend had his wedding here in Sept 2010. Here are some thoughts.

Food - The food was very good. We had chicken and fish, which both were very good.
Venue - The banquet room was amazing. It can probably seat up to 350 with comfort, with a nice dance floor and stage area.

Rooms - We stayed in one of the suites, and at 5pm, the room service still had not cleaned the room. We checked with them at 5, and the beds did get made, but the bathroom, kitchen and common room was a disaster. We transitioned from a prior room to the suite, and the staff must not have known we were not costumers, because the place was still trashed.

Security - One word, "Joke". There were people coming in and out of the reception that did not belong to the wedding. When confronted by family members, ruckus ensued. There were not security guards to be found until someone went to get them.

Based on all the bs the family and friends had to deal with that night, I would never recommend this place, until they get security cameras and an actual working security team. Instead of remembering a beautiful wedding, the family will remember the problems with security, the bride getting assaulted AT HER OWN RECEPTION, and how much of a joke the security is at this hotel.

“Very Luxurious for a Ski Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2010

Typically when we ski, we stay in a condo, but because we decided to take this trip at the last minute, we booked a room at the Grand Summit Hotel. After this trip we may never go back to the condos. The beds were very comfortable, soft with plush down comforters. We parents had a room too ourselves with a king size bed, flat screen tv, and pull out couch. The kids shared a murphy bed in the main area of the room which also had a flat screen tv and a blu-ray player. There is a full kitchen with a small stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and full-size refrigerator. Also a table that seats 6. From the aromas in the hallway, it seems like a lot of people take advantage of the kitchen to cook meals. That may bother some folks, but we were okay with it. Bathroom was modern and clean, the shower curtain liner was brand new. We had plenty of room. There is a shuttle that will take you to the various lodges, or you can ski in/out directly from the hotel. The staff was extremely nice, they all made us feel very welcome. The breakfast buffet was very good. We didn't hear noise from any other rooms, but we were on the 3rd floor, so no one was above us. We really enjoyed the pool, hot tub, and steam room. You don't often get a chance to swim in an outdoor pool in January! We had a great weekend, and we'll definitely be back.

“AWFUL!!! So Bad that we turned around and drove 4 hours back home”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2010

Signed up for a "package deal" here this weekend, which was to include room, lift tickets and breakfast. The construction of this hotel is so poor that you can literally hear every sound in rooms above, below and beside you. I called the front desk, and they moved my room. This did not help--the noise from above sounded like a family jumping up and down in ski boots. This was at 11:00pm.

I called the front desk several times, and was basically told "tough luck." We decided that it was not worth staying, and drove back at midnight.

The construction of the buildings was very obviously done on the cheap, to the extent that the walls are like paper. The staff is clueless and not really interested in helping out.

Besides the shoddy construction, the type of clientele this place attracts does not live up to anything "Grand." It's basically an overpriced dorm in the mountains, with tons of pre-teens and college students running down the halls, shouting and making noise, with no noticeable adult supervision.

Fortunately, I was able to get a full refund on the spot. Never, never again!

Thanks for a great vacation, Sunday River.
